I am 54 yrs. old and have been gaining a lot of weight in the last 12 yrs. I quit smoking, and am on medication that causes weight gain, and have gone through menopause which slows down the metabolism & have low thyroid but on medication for that so that shouldn't have an impact on weight now. I also tend to be an emotional eater & eat when bored, tired or procrastinating. Also, like to drink alcohol! Wine...My kids are grown so my husband & I often go out to eat & I find it difficult to limit my portions. I'm trying to not drink alcohol on week days. I work part-time in a health club! See in-shape people all day long & feel very self-conscious. My husband is very thin, eats a lot & is in great shape. He is very disappointed in me for gaining so much weight & is no longer attracted to me physically. So this is causing additional emotional duress which you would think would lead me to NOT EAT, but seems to be having the opposite effect as I've been so upset. Though in the last month my doc changed the medication I was taking for bipolar & I have started a diabetes education class. I also do individual therapy & dialectical behavioral therapy (group therapy that is more like a class for learning coping skills & new techniques for handling stress & escalating emotions). I started these about 6 months ago after having a VERY BAD spell of depression after having a bout of hypo mania which I didn't report to the doc as I didn't realize it was dangerous & it felt SO GOOD! I had been stable for about 5 years before this happened so it was a shock to suddenly have my stability get rocked.

I'm 37 and in grad school to be a guidance counselor. I love being on the computer but have limited my time as I need to focus on my studies.

52, married, no children (except 8 cats, 2 parrots and 1 dog!)
