UGH!! Loose Skin!!

ok, so this is just a rant..but if anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE feel free to post on this..

Ok, so I've been on Weight Watchers since November 2007. To date, I've lost 53 lbs. 9 more to go and I'll be at my goal weight. Up until about a month ago, I hadnt worked out at all. All I did was cut my portions and I lost the 53 lbs doing that alone. I feel better than I have in a long time, but my only problem is that I have loose skin now from the weight loss..I HATE it!! It almost makes me wanna go back to being overweight!! And I refuse to have cosmetic surgery if it's not absolutely necessary...Ok..Rant over..thanks for listening

has anyone been successful at tightening up their loose skin, especially around the lower abdomen region after weight loss? Without surgery...

loose flabby stomach

I have three boys ages 12, 8, and 5. my stomach is stretched and loose and I was wondering how much it will tighten back up as I go down towards 115-120. Does anyone have any before and after pictures to show how much yours tightened up?

Loose skin and how to fix it!

I'm currently a team member in "LOSE 100 POUNDS" and a fellow member asked about this same problem....here was my response:

In response to loose and sagging skin: I thought that it was most likely to occur if the weight was dropped at a very rapid weight...Such as gastric bypass surgery, lap band surgery, crash dieting, fasting, etc. I think losing weight slowly is the best thing you can do to help with "sagging". However, sagging skin can happen even to those of us that lose weight slowly.

What I think happens is that we lose WEIGHT, not necessarily FAT - which is the key here. Say a woman becomes pregnant and gains 50 lbs. during the pregnancy. What if she loses all of the 50lbs she gained, but she has a flabby stomach (that she didn't have before), some loose skin on her arms (where did that come from!?), and she has love handles that didn't exist a year ago. Why? Because she didn't necessarily lose the FAT that she gained, perhaps she lost muscle mass. So her body fat % hasn't changed, just her weight. Therefore the fat that she gained will still be there - so she'll have the flabby skin.

I think a way of combating this is weight training....toning the muscles and focus on losing fat instead of weight. If I were you *******, I would ask about "body fat calipers" at the Y you go to. If you find a personal trainer or someone that works in the gym, they'll know what you're looking for and will be able to perform a BMI (w/ the caliper). I would go every few months and test your BMI with them, this is a sure way to know if you're losing fat and how much.

Here are a few good websites about it:
http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm
http://www.philkaplan.com/thefitnesstruth/skinredundancy.htm

---- Also, you say that you didn't work out at all, that you just did portion control and watched what you ate. I think that might be your problem right there - my theory is that you lost a significant amount of muscle mass but that perhaps you haven't lose as much of your body fat % as you think you have.

Look into getting a proper BMI done with the caliper and see what happens.

Ok so you have to make sure to keep your muscle tone up while buring the fat off under the skin. Does anyone have any pictures to show how they tightened up their abs after loosing weight? What is the workouts and diet strategy that worked to accomplish this?

Hi! The muscle toning thing makes sense- isn't muscle attached to skin through fascia? or at least it fills the skin out...

Don't forget glycolic acid and retina (unless you are pregnant or nursing)-- loose skin is just another wrinkle..

Its your Spirit that's beautiful anyway. Enjoy Lightness!

The May 15 poster is all off.

Loose skin exists for a multitude of reasons. It stretches to fit you- shrinking back into place takes much more work, and more collagen, and collagen naturally depletes as you get older. A 25 year old has a better chance at fighting loose skin than a 65 year old.

There is a difference though between loose skin and extra fat. And no, your muscle doesn't necessarily attach to skin. Everyone generally has a layer of 'subcutaneous fat' which is under the skin. You can easily lose weight and much of that weight can be muscle mass which isn't going to give you a great shape. Fat jiggles. The more of it, the more it jiggles. So a person with 14" biceps with good muscle is going to have better looking arms than a person with 14" biceps lacking the muscle, because the fat is spread over the not jiggley muscle.

Exercising, and eating **healthy** (NOT just low cal, which does not necessarily mean healthy) moves towards actual health and not just weight loss- you get more circulation and more nutrients to your skin, it's going to be better able to shrink back at some point. The skin is the largest organ of your body, and it needs to be taken care of.

Some people have also had success with body brushing, which stimulates circulation, and the under rated lymph, when done properly.

Aminogen

Oh! I just figured this one out. Skin is relative to nutrition so you will notice a difference in your skin when you incorperate lean protein, amino acids and fiber into your diet. Your skin will look healthy and vital when you give yourself nutrition from the inside out. I used an herbalife supplement called
Cell-U-Loss: a combination of Vitamins, Minerals and Herbs to help improve circulation. Help with excess water retention (bloating in lower stomach). It also promotes inch loss. Helps eliminate excess body fluid to help improve the appearance of skin in problem areas. I take 2 a day with my main meals. It will not harm you to take more but if you do you will be going to the bathroom every time you drink water. It will not dehydrate you... just get rid of the bloat.
I really believe in this stuff! so much so that I became a distributor, If you want to check it out go to www.shopherbalife.com/eatsmart go to "weight management" (on the upper heading) and then go to "enhancers" Each supplement is about 16 dollars. The goal is to incorporate lean protein into each meal. It helps build lean muscle mass and keeps your skin tight as you lose weight.

worked for me

I used a 3 step process... Every day for 3 months I used Herbalife's "body buffing scrub in the shower, after which I applied their "body contouring cream" and wrapped that part of my body in plastic wrap for about an hour (yes everyone thought I was crazy but it did work) I also took a supplement called cell-u-loss...it worked so well I became an herbalife distributer. You can read about the products on www.shopherbalife.com/eatsmart

I am soft and loose in my stomach. Will running and weight lifting tighten it all back up. Has anyone had experience in making this actually work?

running helped flatten my stomach, but not 'all toned up' because I like being curvy. If you want running to help with your stomach, you do have to make sure you suck your stomach in (think pull your belly button to your spine), shoulders back *and down* (Don't shrug them up) don't cross your arms in front as you run.

Home Solution to loose skin

This home remedy works and is WAY cheaper than anything else I have found. (under $30)
What you Need
~Saran wrap
~Body Contouring Crème by herbalife (you can get it at www.shopherbalife.com/eatsmat)

* Apply the contouring cream to problem area (for me it was stomach and upper arms)
*wrap the area in saran wrap
* leave on for about 45 min. (or sit in sauna/ steam room/ fogged up shower room for 15 min.)

The Gingko biloba extract and fruit acids in the cream help improve the appearance of skin firmness, texture and tone in problem areas. and the saran wrap triples the effectiveness by trapping in the heat allowing it to absorb better.

permanent solution

Here is what finally worked for me. dieting without exercise is the surest way to end up with lose skin. I did the HCG diet, and lost 50 pounds, but because I lost muscle too, my skin did not have anything tight to hold on to.

When I started to work out and weightlift, etc, I saw improvement.

Look at your diet in terms of what you are eating also. I did a cleanse, and juiced, and ate "raw" for about 7 days. The results were amazing. My skin tightened up, in addition to my gray hair diminishing significantly.

I ate sprouts in my salad to get my protein, (mung bean sprouts) come to find out that they help the body manufacture collagen which leads to skin tightness.

In order to get rid of lump sagging skin, you have to do it at the source. First think I would do is add raw juices to your diet particularly cucumbers, celery, and cabbage, at least 16 oz, twice a day.

Drink plenty of fresh water.

Make sure you are eating lots of salads, and getting enough fiber. Mung bean sprouts also have a high fiber content.

Add a good quality wheat grass drink to your diet. Their many health benefits to numerous to mention, but wheat grass will help you rebuild your tissues, cleans your blood, etc.

You will see dramatic improvement.

Decrease the amount of meat and dairy in your diet, or just eliminate it all together if you can muster it. Meat and dairy carry such a toxic load, it makes cellulite, and skin conditions worse. If you have to eat meat, they say that sea food is the best choice of all flesh foods.

I thought I would never get my body back. I reached my weight goals basically doing low carb diets, and not exercising enough, and in the end, I had saggy skin and creaky joints.

when I started to exercise I was able to eat a more balance diet with out any weight gain.

Good healthy carbs draw water into your muscle, which should help the whole skin condition thing.

So in short, first do a detox. Head out to a sauna, and sweat it out. drink fresh juices, cleanse your liver, drink at least 2 gallons of water, trust me it works.

and then decrease your toxic load. Explore some vegan recipes to add to your diet.

Seriously, you will not only not have a skin condition anymore, but you will look at least 10 years younger to boot. I get carded now, and I laugh when I do. Its a compliment.

running

running will definitely help tone you up, but only in the beginning. After your body gets used to running, you may see your results diminish. Runnign is good for stamina, conditioning, and endurance, but you will not see a huge change in your body type.

By contrast, if you weight lift, you can actually change your body shape. If you are trying to get your body back after having a baby, be sure to do more crunches, to shorten your ab muscles, before trying things with levers, (like Pilates, that require you to stretch out your stomach). Do the crunches first, and when you 've mastered that , move on to leg lifts, etc.

You can totally get your body back. My waist is actually skinnier than it was before I had the baby, (no surgery).

After I ran, I wore a corsette for a few weeks, and that did the trick.
