quick fix

OK, I know this diet thing is supposed to be a life-style change, but I need a quick fix. I just got back from a cruise and gained about 5 pounds. I have another trip planned to Jamaice in 2 weeks and I feel like a blimp. Anyone have some tips on how to do some damage-control quickly? I'm back to exercising like a fiend and trying to drink lots of water. Any other words of wisdom? And for those nay-sayers that would like to preach to me about not doing fad diets, please do not respond. I'm just looking for ideas from people who have lost quickly for an occasion. I'll worry about life-long changes when I get back from my trip.

My quick fix...figure out how many calories a day you should eat to maintain and deduct 500 calories...also ensure that you burn a minimum of 500 cal per day....

If you eat 500 cal less and burn 500 cal per day you'll lose 2 lbs...I wouldn't restrict calories more than 500 ... but there's nothing saying that you can't burn more than 500 cal per day.

Good luck.

Try to not eat a lot of salt (as little as you can). Drink a lot of water and tea. Exercise (sweat). Don't eat dairy products (cheese or milk). You could lose about 5 lbs. (or more) doing this for 2 weeks.

Some of those pounds could be what I call "bad food bloat"- so you may very well see them disappear rather quickly since you probably didn't really gain 5 full pounds of fat- a lot of that could be not having BM's like you were and/or retaining water from white carbs, sodium, and not drinking enough water.
Try the suggestions above, but also stay away from alcohol and white carbs. You should see the scale moving rather quickly!

I was thinking that if a person were to stay mostly to fuits and veggies the weight comes off fast. And of course lots of water. Lean protien as well but little of it.
Good luck and have a great time.

OP here

Thanks for all the tips! So far I'm trying to drink lots of water, stick to fruit and veggies, with some protein. Any carbs I have will be whole wheat, but I'll try to keep those to a minimum. I'll also get back to my exercising, so that should help some. Thanks again! If you think of anything else, let me know. Oh, and I hardly ever eat salty things, so I should be OK there.

Think of the next two weeks as your start of life-long changes anyway.

Do three 40-minute weight training sessions each week and you will also lose some inches.

the 3 day diet if you are looking for a fad diet. You can find the information and meal plan on Webmd.com It gauntees that you lose 10 pounds in 3 days. There isn' alot of weird food either you probaly have most of the food in your pantry now. GOOD LUCK

A word of caution about the wheat -- I have heard that it can take up to 5 days for wheat to completely digest out of your system, and during that process it can cause you to retain up to 3 lbs of water (or the other way around -- 3 days to digest, 5 lbs water... not really sure if I have the days/lbs in the right place). Either way, a 5 lbs carry for 3 days or a 3 lbs carry for 5 days can be a lot if you're looking to lose fast. Good luck, and have a wonderful time!

I tried that hollywood miracle diet thing and lost like 8 pounds in 2 days, that was cool, but I don't know how it actually works. It is hard not to eat anything at all though! plus it is kinda pricy,
I wonder if you could just buy apricot juice or something and only just drink that for two days?

Well, I cut out the carbs, drank lots of water, stayed away from salt, cut back on exercise a little (so I wouldn't be so hungry), drank lemon tea with parsley, and added Salba to my food. I've lost the 5 pounds I gained while away, and 3 more!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all of the advice. I'm ready to go away again now!
