Strictly by numbers alone, it would seem to be a 'perfect' weight. But, yeah - without regards to the body mass makeup, hard to say.

I am 5'7''/150/8/F - I used to be anorexic and 120 was a size 0/as thin as i get. 135 was a healthier look for me while still being thin (size 4). Right now I would say I am very fit but not "thin" - lots of mucle and still a little fat I would like to lose.

I think that 5'6" and 130 is attractive on YOU, but 5 pounds too heavy on ME.

Please note that most guys do not want a "thin" girl, but a moderately curvatious, in shape and healthy one.

...really.

...not kidding.

There is no set weight that is too thin, just like there is no set at this weight you are too heavy.

In general for 5'6 I would say anything much smaller than 115-120 is way too thin. Not saying everyone at 5'6 will look good at 115 or 120 and not look too thin I just think below that is getting dangerously thin for that height.

this reminds me of the height/weight/size string - it amazing how the same height and weight can still be two different sizes. Sometimes when I am at the gym (the only time I am staring at a large, random, group of people in shorts and ts/tanks for a long time) I am astounded at how different everyone's body is.

to me, thin is skinny, which I don't find attractive, and much too much work for something I don't like.

The only ribs I want to see are on a plate in front of me.

Maybe go by your body fat percentage instead?
I have a friend who was very skinny outwardly but actually overfat in terms of her body fat number because she never worked out or ate particularly well. Turns out her body, although very skinny looking, was fat underneath!
I'd say if you're in the normal range for your height and build and have a lower range of body fat for your gender and age, you should look fantastic!

Totally depends on your body type & muscularity. My daughter, 20 YO is 5'5" , 130 lb, and a size 2 or 4. Very, very slim. Me, when I was 20, 5"8", 130 lb was a little bit chunky. The difference? She is incredibly fit, and simply a svelter body type. I was not fit, and tended toward heavier in the hips and thighs. All depends.

I agree. It depends on where you carry everything on your body. I'm 5'6", 146 lbs. and a size 4-6. I'm still looking to lose 10 lbs. or so, but I think I look pretty good.

The last time I lost weight I was 135 at 5'4" and I thought I looked pretty good. I was working out (cardio and strength) like a maniac. Even 140 was doable. I checked out the Eat to Live program and they said I should weigh 111 lbs. I haven't weighed that since I was 17 and I was teeny tiny! 111 on me now, as a grown woman, would make me look emaciated.

Skeletal is "normal" ? ?

There is no good way exept a doctor or your evalutaion..

at 5'11'' and 179 (male) I am considered overweight BMI - no way - I am muscular and pretty thin
and at 129 lbs I would be "normal weight" - MAN! - I would look like Christian Bale in "The Machinist" ! ! (or be dead!)

Grown women should not be able to shop in the junior's dept. as far as I'm concerned.

I'm 51. I have an acquaintance, same age as me, who lost a bunch of weight a few years ago, became a workout fiend, got a boob job, and voila.....she has a great body. Nothing wrong with a grown woman being a size 4. Unfortunately she shops for clothes like she is 20. I mean from far off, she looks great in that bikini or miniskirt, but when she gets close up and you she how her face and skin have aged, it's a bit jarring, to say the very least. I admire her determination, but I do wish she would dress a little more age appropriate. Sorry to get off subject....

Depends on the body type/build. 5'6 130 is thin, definitely not fat or overweight. I wouldn't say it is too thin. It's a healthy weight.

I think people's perceptions change when you have been at a certain weight for a long time, I am not thin - but have lost 40 pounds over 2 years so people think that I am thin in my face and stuff...

You don't have to look anorexic to be too thin. There's a big difference.

I KNOW!!! I totally understand! The students I teach ( 12 yr. olds) can't wait for it to warm up so they can wear their lacy, strappy, might as well be a negligee tank tops under their hoodies!! They come to class all zipped up, but once they hit the halls they zip it down like a pro before a teacher sees them! Once June hits, some of them wear string bikini tops underneath!!! Freaking A!!!!

I would also add to this discussion ethnicity. I am 5'7" and when I was 135/140 African-American men, Italians, and Hispanic men would not even look at me. But most white men would. Now at about 155, the previously mentioned ethnicities won't leave me alone! It also depends on where you live - I am in Europe and they have a more embracing view of what a body should look like. I'm trying to get to 145/140, but without losing too many of my curves - I love my butt!

2:51 Poster - Why shouldn't grown women be able to shop in the juniors dept? I"ve always shopped in that department and I am 36. The "misses" department is full of ugly, flowery, oversized, not attractive, "old" looking clothes that I think add to your age and are not very flattering to the body. I find that many of the juniors clothes are more form fitting and flattering for my body type. I am 5'4 135 and looking to lose another 15-20lbs.

Also, the junior sizes go up to a size 11 or 13, so some of them are HUGE!

Because wearing clothes bought in the junior dept make you look like the grown up who's desperately trying to still look like a teenager, and that's never flattering. And if all you can find is flowery frumpy outfits, you might want to try a different store. It's not so much a size issue, I can easily wear the larger end of junior sizes, but I think a 38 yr. old woman in those outfits are comical! Heck, I don't even want my daughter shopping in the junior dept half the time because most of the shirts are t*ts on parade and the pants are so low you could roll a quarter down someone's a$$ crack like a slot machine!!! :)

I have to agree with 10:17. If you have a Nordstrom - they have a great selection of clothes for women who 'haven't given up.' Dressing your age is the most flattering thing you can do for yourself. And you can still be cute and sexy without shopping at Forever 21.

And I would say, too, stay out of the MIsses section! I agree with you on that, 7:43. Most of those clothes are not flattering.

Plus juniors clothes are not meant for hips/womanly bodies

If you are in your 30s and still shopping in the juniors section you should probably go on TLC's "What Not To Wear"

It's good that you asked this question because i was once 160 (i am 5.1") and felt like a slob. Other people felt that I was average. Now that I am 115 and a size 2, I am being told that I am skinny. Of course my husband is not complaining at all because I feel so much better about myself (I also look better in Victoria Secret attire). But what do you think? Am I too thin?

I am 5'1", 115lbs, and a size 2 as well. And I am in no means too skinny.

At 5'1", 105 lbs is the same as 130lbs is at 5'6". 115lbs is heavier.

I have big boobs (32DD, and totally real), and big hips, and a defined waist. My thighs have some flab, but not a ton. No one would ever call me fat, but no one would call me skinny either.

So, no, 115lbs at 5'1" is not "too skinny."
