I am curious. How many people here drink diet soda? I gave it up about 10 years ago. It has only been in that period that I have been able to take weight off and keep it off for any period of time. Now I drink water or tea (unsweet). Used to drink seltzer (to transition from diet soda...which I used to drink all day long) but I rarely have it now.

I drink it even though I know I shouldnt. I was raised on the stuff - literally a pantry filled with every kind of diet soda you could imagine. I think it is in my DNA now. I try to only have 3 or 4 a week but I could easliy have 3 or 4 a day if I let myself.

I just drink water. I met someone who once took out ALL their teeth and said it was from obsessively drinking coke.....I've also heard the carbonation is bad for your bones.
You cant go wrong with water, so I stick with that.

I've heard that sweeteners do that! If interested, you should read the book "Sweet Poison". It will blow you away.

thanks for this link. my boyfriend is also quite overweight and i told him that diet soda isn't any better than regular soda..... but he wont believe me. he sometimes drinks a 12-case in a matter of 2 or 3 days. he was told by a trainer at a gym that diet soda is ok, so when i told him about my health-freak boss talking about how diet soda is just as bad (as according to her doctors) he was like "you're dumb, who are you gona believe a trainer or someone who owns a restaurant"

maybe this could at least be a step towards him giving his head a shake.

i dont drink soda anymore i gave it up about 12 yrs ago when i had to go have an upper gi done and found out i had a large acid pocket built up in my stomach due to the soda had to go on meds to get rid of it after i got off of it. i lost 20 lbs in one yr without even trying. now recently my husband had to have all of his top teeth removed and half of his bottom because they had rotted so bad from drinking so much mountain dew and not brushing regularly. so now he drinks iced tea and i drink water

iced tea has as much sugar in it as pop does though, how does that help him? i'm not giving shit -- i'm just curious

Iced tea is made with a tea bag and water - where is the sugar in that? I can see where some of the sweetened, flavored teas may have as much, but regular iced tea is just water that has filtered through some leaves and been chilled.

Check the ingredient on any commercial iced tea- it will have loads of sugar- usually corn sugar.

It's quite rare to find anywhere "iced tea" that is cold tea, unless you make it yourself.
