I hear their modo is "Keep Austin Weird". I think that's why I'm so attracted to it! I'd fit right in...

I live in Austin. I LOVE Austin. I am originally from California and have traveled the east coast. Austin is the best place I have found. Its a beautiful and very friendly city. You should take a trip and see if you like it. I have been here for 8 years and am not going anywhere!

I used to live in Austin -- loved it. However, I visited recently and found the traffic HORRENDOUS. That was a shock.

I spent two summers in Austin in college. Love the town, love the people. I crashed on my friends girlfriends couch one of the summers, and generally bbqued, drank Shiner Bock, hung out at Barton Springs, Lake Travis. I keep promising to take Jackie there and I will one of these days.

This might be a funny question, but are most people transplants, or is it full of people who have lived there a while? If so, do they have southern dialects?

There are plenty of transplants here. Its funny though after a few years even the transplants start to say y'all. I know I have and I lived in California for 25 years of my life. I have not found one person that is racist toward "foreigners" (not really sure who the poster was talking about) here. There are many companies such as Dell that have outsourced and have many foreign workers working there. I find it to be a huge melting pot.
