How often can I work abs?

The standard rule of thumb is to give a muscle a day off after a weight workout so it can rest. However, one of my videos has a short ab routine (5 mins) and the instructor says the routine can be preformed everyday.

I also think I read something once that all muscle groups need at least a full day of rest but that the abs can be worked everyday.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

Abs can be done avery day. But you should still have 1 day per week as a rest day where you don't do anything.

Abs can be worked every day, but they should always be done at the end of a workout because you use your abs to stabilize yourself in your other workouts, and if they're too tired b/c you worked them first, you increase the risk of hurting yourself.

I have to agree and disagree with the last poster. My trainer has me working out my abs every single day, but he has me do them at the beginning of my workouts to "activate my core." That way your abs are better prepared to stabilize you during your workouts.

My trainer says that for a lean look you can do abs every day with one day a week off, and for a muscular look you should work them out hard every other day. I think there was a little more to the muscular look plan, but we didn't go into it because that isn't my goal.
