Tea and Coffee

I have read that since tea and coffee are direutics they don't count toward your daily water allotment, but I have also read that they do. Anyone know the facts, Jack?

I would count tea - especially herbal teas. Coffee, less so.
Nothing really takes the place of pure water though.

There has been research done that says if you drink coffee and tea regularly, then your body becomes habituated to the diuretic effect, and therefore not that much fluid is lost as urine. So yes, I would count it as part of your daily fluid intake. Also, there is no medical literature to support the "drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day"; there is ample evidence to state the most of the fluid we need we get from food. A simple way to figure if you are hydrated: if your urine is a pale yellow color, then you are hydrated enough. If it's darker, then drink something.

I just read something the other day supporting that you really didn't need to drink as much water as everyone tells you to... that you really do get a lot from your food. I know that from eating more fruits and veggies now than I ever had, I must be getting plenty!
