Like a Bowflex or something like that, how much more do you workout vs going to a gym?

I have an elliptical that doesn't get any use at home. I can go to the gym and workout just fine though. For me it must be something about getting up and out.

I run on my treadmill every day in the winter, cold, rainy, etc. weather. It is all "what you get used to."

I have a weight bench, various dumbbells and workout tapes. I do most of my cardio outside and all my weight training inside. However, while I do weights I run around a liile circle through my kitchen, living room and hallway between sets to keep my heart rate up! I'm sure I look pretty stupid doing it, but since I am home, there's no one watching me, and I don't feel quite as stupid! :<)

Where is the best place to buy something like an elliptical machine?

Always shop around before you buy. I have a treadmill, recumbent bike, bun & thigh roller, and various exercise DVD's for yoga and pilates. I do everything at home. When I was heavier it was a matter of privacy vs embarrassment so I started working out at home. Now I love the freedom of working out any time that is convenient for me. I also get to spend quality time with my kids and still get in a workout.

When I bought my work out equipment, I did my research on-line for the best treadmill/elliptical that worked for what I wanted in a machine; then I found out who had them available in my area. I did not want to purchase one on-line because my friend bought one on-line and she had to put it together, it took her days.

I have a recumbant and a weight machine. I went to varioius stores and tried the equipment, noted prices and then made my purchases. However, just like going to a gym you need to schedule time for it and make it a priority.

I have dumb bells and videos that I do at home, and I run year round outside. If I have to drive somewhere to work out, I more than likely won't do it!

Advice-if you buy an elliptical, pay to have it installed. I didn't and it took me forever to move the huge heavy pieces and then try to put the thing together. I couldn't believe how long it took.

I have a treadmill (nordictracK) an elliptical rider (a cheapie one from K-Mart), a weight bench (we are starting to use it), a rowing machine (kind of broken, so we don't use it much any more, and a health rider (which has not seen much use lately) I also have the big pilates balls (I like to sit on them to watch TV), and other stuff.

I am using my treadmill like mad!!! I like how I can track the calories, check my heartrate, etc.

PLUS, I figured out that for the cost of 1 year at a gym or 3 months of not eating lunch out, my hubby and I can have a great treadmill that will last us for years!

I've already put over 100 miles on it since we bought it in Mid JANUARY!

I have an elliptical - I use it at least 3 times a week, and more if it's too cold or rainy to walk outside. Fortunately, it's been nice enough that I can also get out to walk at least 3 times a week, so I do a combination of both and get in at least five days a week.

I am in Nebraska, so I think it will be great for the hot and humid summer when I don't want to walk in the heat.

I also have an elliptical machine. I ordered online and I love it. It took me less than two hours to put it together and I am not good at that sort of thing. The delivery guy brought it into my living room for me, I put it together in there and then I roll it around using the front wheels when I want to move it. I use it everyday and love having it right here. I would never exercise this much if I had to go to the gym.

I have a recumbant bike (which I adore) a treadmill, an elliptical, a bowflex and a few other things ...but the number one BEST machine I have is my TIVO! hee hee
seriously, I only have two or three things I enjoy watching, (Law and Order) and I will not allow myself to watch them unless I am working out. An hour or more a day has become so easy! and no comercial breaks to bore me or send me into the kitchen. my bike and treadmill are cheapies but they get a lot of use!

I have built up a work out room downstairs in my house and love it. For every birthday, Holiday etc I would ask for something new. Now I don't need to go to a gym, I can work out at 4:00 a.m. BEFORE showering for the day and not have to go anywhere but downstairs. If I had to "get ready to go" somewhere I probably wouldn't be as dedicated. I currently have a treadmill, stationary bike, nautilus, Gazelle, free weight as well as some kickboxing tapes I use here and there. You just can't beat the convenience of working out at home and the best part, lots less room for excuses not to!!

I have a bedroom set up for a workout room. i have a treadmill, bike, freeweights up to 50 lbs. step benches, ball, Various DVD's If I need a change once in a while i pay for a day pass to a gym or I go to the park. Love the flexibilty it gives me to workout at 4:30 a.m. or 11 p.m. if i want. I don't have to worry about other people's sweat not being wiped off on the machines and no waiting to get on a machine.
