Why are you fat?

What is it? A medical condition? Just a big fan of Little Debbie snacks. Be honest. Why is it that you're fat?

I'm not fat anymore - but what got me there was eating way too much. Especially when I was by myself. I just couldn't stop myself sometimes. Plus, I stopped exercising after my sophomore year in college. It was an ugly scene. I was just lazy. There was nothing medical about it.

because I can't break the emotional eating cycle.

I was getting chubby due to lack of exercise and increasing portions and stuffing myself to oblivion..oh and mindless snacking. I am such a snacker! I still have bad days but at least I am aware and moving my butt now :)

Stress, too many grains, infrequent eating, skipping breakfast, candida, and not working out enough.

I gained my wheat from stress and several years of feasting on pasta when it turns out I'm wheat intolerant. Then came the candida and losing weight got harder.

But, it takes time to fix all those, and I'm limited on time. So, the weight doesn't come off quickly.

I got fat after I got married and as way too comfortable. I finally put the fork down and said to hell with this I don't like what I have become and I am the only one with the power to control it. It has been one year and I l have lost 35 lbs and am watching what I eat and working out 5 times a week. No more being lazy

I got fat when I let my anxiety get the best of me. I was depressed over job and felt incapable of having healthy relationships. I stayed fat after I stopped trying to succeed. I lost my purpose. Ithought it was too late. I dropped out of life.

Major depression hit me hard a number of years ago and I gained about 25lbs in about 6 months. Not good. Depression (as part of depression was my binge eating) kept me overweight/obese for a weight and about 3 years ago I somehow emerged from that deep dark hole and decided I needed to be strong physically and to be strong emotionally/spiritually to truly be healthy (of course lots of therapy and drugs help too). I've lost about 20lbs and am trying to take off the last 10-15lbs (have been trying for the past 3 years).

Depression is why I gain weight too. I've dealt with depression my whole life; it comes and goes. When it comes, I gain weight because I reach for the feel-good foods to increase my serotonin levels: wheat products, cheese, fats. Then when it goes, I spend so much energy and attention trying to lose the 10-15 pounds I gained during that time.

My hope is that the next time I head into a depressive episode, I'll finally kick the habit with exercise instead of food!

It is a mixture for me...

I orginally got fat eating too much and exercising too little...

From there I had a baby and ballooned up to 300 lbs...

Then I became SEVERELY anemic, and the cycle of self medicating my lack of energy with refined carbs and the inability to get off my butt to work out kept the weight on.

I have lost 60lbs, but I still have about 63 lbs before I hit goal.

I got fat when I went to college, started studying around the clock and making poor food choices. In hindsight - it would have been better for both my grades (they were fine, but I bet exercise would have helped my stress levels and made my studying more effective) and my health to schedule some exercise time and be more mindful in my food choices.

Ah well, so be it - I'm making up for it now. These days I put my health ahead of crazy schedules and convenience food. It's really helped me learn to set boundaries and have a healthier work/life balance.

Once on the show ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, the actress said: "Please, if dieting and exercise is all it took to be thin, then no one would be fat." .

But to be very honest with myself, I'm fat because I eat more than I burn off. Period.

PP, what are you talking about. Watching what you eat and exercising is the only way to be thin. Are you one of those people that needs a magic fix?
