Spirutein

Does anyone use Spirutein as a protein replacementh in smoothies? It sounds great since I am vegan and may be experiencing problems with soy, so I need another lean protein source. Calories from beans and nuts can add up quickly.

I tried it once but thought it tasted disgusting -- sort of like seaweed.

I got a can of the powder on the advice of a client who owns a vitamin store - he said it was the best on the market. Obviously he was speaking in terms of nutrition and not taste...to avoid throwing it out, I made shakes that were half Spirutein and half Slimfast (both chocolate).

Spirutein has a SOY and WHEY base. It is not vegan appropriate. It is also full of guar gum, ergo super thick--think trying to drink playdoh. It is really gritty, and tastes terrible, and is near impossible to mix--even with a blender. It also has quite a bit of sugar, compared to similar supplements. I got it last week and will never buy it again. A serving of beans has a lot less calories, more protein and fiber--and tastes loads better.
