how do you know how many calories your burning when your exercising?

You can look at a chart that lists activities and calories burned and get an idea of how many calories you have burned. Also treadmills and such equipment frequently will work out the calories you have burned based on your exercise time, level of exercise, and weight.

What works is to keep cutting back on food intake and increasing exercise until you find out what works for you in terms of weight loss or maintenance of desired weight.

The hang up here for a lot of of us is that we don't like to eat less than we want to eat and we aren't truly willing to increase exercise to a meaningful level.

Add to that - research shows people consistently underestimate how much they eat and overestimate how much they exercise!!

A heart rate monitor with a chest strap is a great way to get a pretty accurate idea of calories burned when exercising.
