I want to be thin but I just cant get there.

I have been on PT for awhile now and have no motivation to lose weight. II see-saw with the same 5lbs and have not had any success at all. I know what I need to do, stop eating so much and start moving more...but I just cant start. I have no motivation to do it. Can someone help me. What is the one thing that has given you motivation. I know all about the help aspect, I know that I need to eat more healthier to be healthy...I want to look great, not like a marshmallow, I want to be able to move more instead of laying on the couch thinking about how I want to move... I just cant seem to be motivated enough to start. I do well for a day or two and then bam...I start to go back to my old ways of doing things. Just to give you idea of how much weight I need to lose, about 35lbs to get to my weight watchers goal weight. Please someone help. I hate being this way I dont think that I am lazy, I have had success with weight watchers ( I dont like going to the meetings, hate them) I tried doing ww myself and havent been able to keep it up. I have read logs and seen that there are people that have lost significant weight loss...how do you do it. I am blocked and just dont know why I am this way. Maybe someone can say something to open my eyes.

I can tell you how once you get started and get going that motivation will follow. I can tell you that you have to decide that losing weight is more important to you than eating and being sedentary; that food is not more important than your goals...and a hundred other things that are designed to get you on your journey.

I also know that making changes and challenging the body physically, mentally and emotionally...it all brings up A LOT of stuff,a lot of feeling and emotion. At least it does for me. It may feel like anger at yourself for getting to the point where you currently are, it may feel like physical discomfort b/c you're doing things you haven't done before or in a long time, it may be anxiety b/c you think that you have to experience that discomfort all the time in order to achieve your goals (which you don't...it's a short lived state.) And the fastest and easiest way to shut down that discomfort is to bail on your efforts and to go back to taking the path of least resistance, which keeps you exactly where you are.

You might find some insight or help with a book: The Beck Diet Solution. It's a cognitive behavioral approach to weight loss and it scratches the surface in terms of dealing with why we don't stick to whatever weight loss plan is chosen.

Lastly, I say change your language. Don't say, "I can't get there." You can get there, right now you're just choosing not to. Sometimes using words that acknowledge that you are in control of your choices...it's enough to kick yourself in the behind and get going. The moment I said stopped saying, "I can't resist dessert!" and said, "My weight reflects that food is more important to me than my goals." Whoa. That is not how I wanted to live my life. Food was NOT going to be more important to me than feeling good about myself.
