Wine gives me confidence when I'm out, I can't give it up.

I know if I stopped drinking, I would lose 10 pounds almost instantly but I can talk to people when I drink. I'm not as nervous. I fee like it's a catch 22 because if I lose weight and don't drink, then what's the point if I don't meet anyone?

Oh man OP you just spoke to me! I feel the exact same way. I think we just really need to focus on boosting our confidence because once we are confident in ourselves: both apperance and what we have to offer as people it will be much easier for us to handle social situations without the copious amounts of alcohol. Because really all that drink is is empty calories and social lubrication...

I know its easier said then done, trust me!

I have to tell ya... My boyfriend and I go out EVERY tuesday for "two dollar tuesday" at the bar where we met... It's where we see all of our friends and you know kinda get out of the house!!

We have started going to the bar a little earlier... I always grab a sub from subway or some type of salad with grilled chicken and I usually eat it at the bar cause it's a small town thing... but eating before you go is good... this way you are full and its usually harder to drink (esp. beer) if you're full

I have switched to a lower calorie beer and I ONLY bring money for 2 beers... so try switching to a lower calorie wine... most of the time after the 3rd swallow or so you dont realize it doesnt taste that great anyway...

Set a limit and only take enough money for that limit... people are going to speak to you whether your liquored up or not... and people will probably like you more if you have only had one or two and one or two once a week isnt that bad for you!! Just think how confident you will be if you cut down the drinking and loose the weight... you dont have to stop just moderate

I am so with you!!

My drink of choice is beer, and I can't give it up. My whole lifestyle revolves around it, and giving it up seems like it would mean losing friends, hobbies...everything I really value in life. I know that sounds melodramatic, and the logical side of my brain knows that's not true (and if it is true, that's REALLY scary)...but that's what it feels like sometimes.

Although I struggle with eating as well, I know that drinking is why I gained the weight in the first place, and cutting down drastically would be the best way to lose it. But I am just not willing to yet. Ugh!

Anyway, I have looked for a while for an active group or team on Peer Trainer that is focused on drinking and weightloss. And not just the "should or shouldn't I have a glass of wine with dinner" drinking, but drinking when it is a real part of your social life.

Anyone on here interested in starting a group like that with me?

The way I've been able to cut back on alcohol is:

1) Start off with a diet coke or water until I "decide" what I want to drink - delays the drinking, less time to drink, fills you up
2) drink water in between every drink you order - again lessens drinking time, keeps you hydrated
3) drink light beer, drinks on the rocks (frozen has more calories), use diet cola with your liquors, and pour diet sprite or water into your wine.
4) If I go out and dance to the music or band - harder to drink, burn calories, meet new people, and have fun!

Great suggestions PP. 4:20 I would definitely be interested in starting a group with you.

I am in my mid 20s and it seems like my social life as well revolves around alochol. I have made a commitment to myself to only drink on the weekends but I do struggle.

Let me know if you start a group!
