Why would anyone use the letter "n" to mean and?? That is just not an acceptable grammar shortcut

Txt is find for text. I can even deal with "u" instead of you. But "n" for and?

This has been an accepted contraction since long, long, LONG before texting and even email. It goes back as far as my mother's high school days and she graduated in 50's.

Jill 'n Bob 4ever

Chachi 'n Joannie

Sorry, but that's one that even I can't argue with since it pre-dates texting.

Agreed. I remember a gas station when I was little called the In N Out.

The thing that gets to me is the misuse of quotation marks. Drives me crazy!

Actually, 'n' is per-say proper. Using a apostrophe to replace certain letters in words is a long established process. "wouldn't" is would not with an ' for the o.

Moreover, it's slang. The fact is words like wanna, whatchya, gonna, or even goin' are common terms. Lots of people don't enunciate the d from and, and really pronounce it "en", but as en is a whole different word, they use n.

It's all bastardized English, but you're a fool to be bothered by n if you're not bothered by u.
