Food allergy/sensitivity

Hi -- i've just figured out that my sinus symptoms were from food sensitivies (wheat, dairy, sugar). i'm on an elimination diet right now. Anyone else out there dealing with food allergies or food intolerance/sensitivity? how do you live with this? eat out? I'm thrilled i'm not having my sinus symptoms after years of suffering, but i'm scared/depressed living with this kind of food restriction is the future. Help!

I don't eat wheat, corn (or corn derivatives), and rarely eat grains or dairy (or at least I'm not supposed to, but cheese curds are kinda addicting...) But living without wheat is easy when you know how, and I firmly believe anyone's health can improve when they eliminate wheat.

A good sugar sub is agave nectar. I don't think artificial sugars are good for anyone... applesauce works well in cookie recipes. Fruit concentrates added to seltzer can sub for soda (or knudsen spritzers).

For milk, there's almond milk, rice milk, and soy milk. Soy cheese...

There are soooo many different grains besides wheat. Spelt, Rye, Quinoia, Amaranth, Rice, Soy beans and Oats can all be ground into flour. Spelt can be used for bread recipes instead of wheat, brown rice flour is great as a gravy thickener, Rye can make great crackers, oat flour makes wonderful muffins and pancakes. I don't eat wheat, but there's NOTHING that I miss or lack...

Just check out your local health food store. There are so many products now for people with sensitivities! Trader Joe's has some things too. Good luck!

Trader Joe's also has extensive product lists available in stores and onlines for many categories, like wheat-free, dairy-free, low-fat etc.
