calories burned while biking

hey, does anyone know of a good formula or website to calculate the calories burned while biking? i realize that depending on the terrain, or type of bike one is using the results are different . . but i'm finding it hard to find something consistant. I mostly road bike-usually about 10-12 miles per hour . . .i'm not sure if i'm burning 250 calories an hour or if i'm burning 600 calories an hour! help!!

Go to this website for a good guestimate. I highly recommend investing in a heart rate monitor that also estimates calories burned. Most are calibrated for runners, but some are calibrated for cycling--that will be your most accurate measure when calculated according to your height and weight.

For now, I would say that 600 cal/hour is a much better estimate.

Depends on how hard you work...

Biking outside hard by myself, standing up for 20 pedals and then sitting for 20, etc and doing some hills (like Spinning class), I burn about 7 calories per minute. My heart rate is about 150 bpm average. Biking with a friend, doing some coasting along and talking (115 bpm average), I only burned about 4 calories per minute.
