Goal Weight vs weight you can sustain or are happy with

I was reading an article which analyzed the success rate of people on Weight Watchers. According to the analysis linked to below, the real success rate is two out of 1000.

That seems pretty low, but if you read it they define success as reaching goal weight. My thinking is that there are many people who are not at goal weight but who are making some excellent progress in their journey towards that.

So I thought it made sense to start a thread where people state their goal weight and then the weight they are at, can sustain or are happy with.

I'm 5'8.

My goal weight is 145. I've been there, but know it's difficult to maintain.

My current weight is 172. My "happy weight" is 155-160. If I can get back there and stay in that range I'd consider myself a success.

I'm doing WW but have my own little way to track and stay focused. I have a GOOD, GREAT, and AWESOME GOAL....That way, I can shoot for Awesome but if I end up good.....I'm still successful....I'm 53, have tried and quit (quickly I might add) WW before...Only need to lose about 25 lbs....but this time I'm tracking my points and I know that's key. And this time, I'm trying to be realistic....Averaging 1 lb a week (or more) is all I want. I figure if I give myself 6 months...I'll be there.. This is for life anyway.......so 6 months is just a drop in the bucket. I'm definitely trying to change some BAD....VERY BAD....eating habits. I want to live a long healthy life!

I'm 35 years old and 5'2" (on a good day) and currently weigh 134. My goal weight is 119. In college (before kids) I weighed 117 briefly when I was routinely working out 1-2 hours a day. There's no way I could do that now, so I'd be happy between 125-130.
But I'm still going to shoot for that 119.

I'm 5"ll.

I started in the 260's and now I'm around 200's. I would love to be around 170-175 for my goal weight, but I would just as happy being around 185, where I've been before. At end the day, the number on the scale is just a number being at your goal weight isn't the only measure of success.

The way I look at it, where I'm now is worlds better than where I was before and I'm much happier now then what I was before.

Goal weight

I am 62 and 5'6"

My goal weight is at the high end of 154. I am happiest at 150. I sway up and down between 150 and 160 and have done that for 12 years. My current weight is 156

Diets just never worked for me to obtain a sustained healthy weight loss. Not until I actually changed my eating to a plant based diet, was I personally able to get to and mainatin my weight loss. With no dieting I have lost 40 lbs and stay within that by 1-2 lbs daily. I am below my personal goal and planning to lose maybe a bit more, but it is not essential. Whether or not that lower weight would be sustainable I am not sure. I plan on listening to my body. It's about energy/helath for me, and not just a smaller jean size anymore.

goal weight vs. sustainable weight.

I am following Dr. Fuhrman's eat to live. I am finding it extremely easy to stay on track. 10 years ago I used Weight Watchers and found it extremely hard to maintain my goal weight of 144 pounds. I am only 5' 4" so it seems like a lot for me. I think the reason why I struggled was because I was having a little bit of everything and it made self control way to hard. I know that I can maintain whatever weight I get down to a lot easier when I cut out the animal products and processed foods. If I had a weight that would please me it would be 125. I think that if I can eat this way now I can eat this way for the rest of my life. I have no desire to eat any other way. Eating the crap I used to eat always left me searching for something more to eat that would meet my nutritional needs. As soon as I changed my way of eating, I was able to eat whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted. This may sound naive but it's true. My taste buds changed and I no longer desired all the crap and what I eat now has a fraction of the calories so I can pretty much eat as I want. The deal now is that I don't want to stuff myself. My goal is to get my body to run as efficiently on the least possible amount of food. I think it is realistic for me to expect that I will be able to maintain whatever weight I want.

I'm 45 and 5'6".

My goal weight is 150, however, I don't think I've been anywhere near that since college. In my 20s & 30s I was somewhere between 175-185.

Once I hit 40, I ballooned up to current 235 and I'm fighting to get it off.

I know that 185 will look and feel really good compared to where I am now and I know I can hold steady there. However, that's still too high, especially as I get older.

I'm a 28 yo female at 5'3" and 208 lbs...

Lost 12lbs in a month previously on the no sugar wheat or flour plan and with light exercise im losing 3-4 lbs a week and hope to maintain this loss. The first week is the HARDEST, but now that i have more knowledge of what i can eat and have seen the progress and benefits i'm sold on this lifestyle lol. supposed to be 130 according to the army but my good great and awesome? hmmm... 175 would be good for me! 150 would be absolutely great! and 130 would be AWESOME! I eat 3 meals a day and have 2 small snacks because you have to fuel yourself because starving and cutting back calories doesnt work for many reasons. The exercise is necessary for me because my dr was worried about diabetes, sleep apnea and heart problems for someone of my height and weight- and at not quite 30 years old that was a wakeup call for me. Best of luck to you all!!

I'm 5'6" and 175. I started at 191.

I'm shooting for 145, but honestly, I'd be happy anywhere between 145 and 160.

i'm 5'0 and currently weigh 115.4 (down from about 128). my dream weight is 100, but my realistic goal weight is 108. that being said, i'll take 110 if it means i can still have a couple of beers every now and then and not obsess about calories all the time. i think a lot depends on actually reaching your goal weight and then seeing how realistic it is to attempt to maintain that. if i can get to 108 and maintain it while still "cheating" every now and then, great! but if i'm going to beat myself up over having a steak one night i'll happily take 110 for the peace of mind.
