Yes...either you're not breathing right (holding your breath?) or you just need to get used to the new way of breathing. It happens to me when we do intensive ab work because I *suck* at breathing during the tough stuff.

as a pilates instructor and not knowing your health history I think you are not breathing correctly. Breathing is main ingredient to pilates, you can do more harm that good if you dont breath correctly. Aside from headaches you could also be damanaging your lower back. Watch your breathing and at no time should pilates ever hurt, if you find an exercise difficult and painful, stop!

Funny...I'm just taking a little break here from my pilates because I was getting a headache!! I'm sure it's my breathing is wrong because I'm battling upper-respiratory problems right now!

I also did 40 min of pilates today and got a headache towards the end but I don't think it was from breathing wrong. This was the first time I actually found myself breathing right???

Breathing is the most likely cause of Pilates-related headaches. But a secondary thing to consider is ensure you are WELL hydrated before you start. That doesn't mean sucking down 14 ounces right before you hit the mat. It means drinking your full complement of water every day, so that you are always nicely hydrated!

re: pilates headache

you might not be breathing correctly. I know that when I first started pilates, I would get head rushes every time I got up from the reformer.

My neck arches too far forward and i think that by lifting it up during pilates, it is the cause of my headaches. In fact, it wasnt untill I began pilates that I started having this kind of headache. Seeing a chiropractor isnt a terrible idea, just to be sure.

Just and FYI

re: Pilates Headache

I also get headaches or head rushes when doing pilates.Typically when I sit up or stand up after laying on the mat. I saw others mentioned not breathing right. What is the right way to breath? I don't hold my breath. For the most part, I breathe in through the nose and our through the mouth. What am I doing wrong?

I have 3 Ellen Barret Pilates dvds and I actually choose to do them when I have a headache because those workouts always make me feel better. Ellen is great at all the cuing and breathing direction. I've never gotten a headache doing them.

Wow

I'm starting Pilate's on Thursday and boy I'm glad I logged on... I will be sure to ask what the proper breathing techniques are. My friends never mentioned headaches as a result of doing Pilate's, just abdominal pain (some minimal/some intense).

No pain?

There shouldn't be any pain from doing Pilate's? What about gaining muscle, do you build muscle from Pilate's?

You can build some muscle with Pilates, especially with a reformer.

great

Just taking a short break from my pilates routine to alleviate a nagging headache. I have upper-respiratory issues at the moment, and I'm positive that it's due to improper breathing mario games

It's not uncommon to experience headaches during or after a workout, especially if you're trying a new exercise or if you're not used to the movements. However, if you consistently ovo game experience headaches specifically during Pilates workouts, it's possible that the cause could be related to your form, breathing, or the intensity of the exercise.

Pilates movements can put pressure on the neck and spine. Try adjusting your posture and pay attention to how comfortable you feel throughout the exercise. mapquest

Inadequate wordle fluid intake before, during, or after your Pilates session can lead to dehydration, which may result in headaches. Make sure you are properly hydrated before and after your workouts.
