empty nester ready to start jogging

I fit that bill. I'm not a runner, but am interested in starting to jog. At the moment, I don't exercise at all -- something I need to change immediately. (Just joined this site yesterday.)

I am an empty nester and I am new to running. I have done my first 5K and am working on getting my time down. I have only been running about 6 months on and off. More on lately.

This may be a stupid question but what is a "empty nest runner?"

An empty nester is someone without children living in the home so we are older runners normally. Although I don't think I that old lol, I'm 43 but my kids are all off to college.

I was in the military as well and always hated running, now 20 years later I really enjoy it. :)

I'm about to become an empty nester in a few months, and I would like to take up running. The only thing is I don't really like to run.
How did you get to enjoy running? Was there a break-through moment?

I took a Couch to 5K class at the university continuing education program. You start out running like 30 seconds. You can find C25K programs online. It keeps it easy as you're starting. Then after 9 weeks you can run a 5K. Go at your own pace and it becomes fun. Join 5K walks and 5K races, it is more fun to run with others. Give it a try :)
