Flaxseed and the cheat system
I've been adding a table spoon of ready milled, organic flaxseed to my breakfast for about a month now to help keep me full, to up my fiber intake, and get all the great healthy vitamins, minerals, and healthy oils that it contains.
My question is this...I know the first tablespoon of seeds are on the left hand column of the cheat system, but as these are technically "processed" (that is, milled) do they need to be counted as a cheat?
Ah the questions that plague us :)

Great job on getting the seeds in your diet! Processed "milled" flaxseeds are better than no seeds in your diet.
If that is where you are, and you are looking to take it up a notch, consider freshly grinding your whole seed flaxseeds at home. You can pick up an inexpensive spice (coffee) grinder to use every morning to grind the flaxseeds. Be sure to really clean the grinder and let it dry completely (I would clean mine daily) because the residue can become rancid.
I've read that by freshly grinding, immediately before use, that you retain more of the nutrients, and it's necessary to grind before use for body to absorb nutrients. I guess grinding the seeds is technically considered processing also ? (laughs) Not a cheat in my book!
Have you tried chia seeds?? Even better than flax! And you don't have to grind them!!! ;)

no, this is not a cheat. We need to clarify this better- people dont get enough fiber period, so the added fiber, fatty acid profile, the protein- all good things.
