What do you order at Subway?

Are the rolls really that bad? Can I just get a sandwich?

Jared lost wt on the "subway diet" as we have all heard. He also incorporated walking in his routine. However, by eating at subway, he was replacing his current intake of huge amounts of crap with a lesser evil. I think whether you can incorporate subway is relative to your own diet. If you replace a meal at McD's which is about as unhealthy as you can get, or replace sugary crap (donuts, candy, ice cream, etc), you will have made an improvement. However, if you have already eliminated most crap and eat healthy most of the time, then eating a subway would be a detriment.

The bread is the primary culprit (assuming you don't drench the sandwich in dressings and eat something like turkey w/ lots of vegys. The bread is basically a processed carb that the digestive system can easily and quickly convert to sugar. this causes a spike in blood sugar. The body reacts to blood sugar spikes by increasing insulin production. Insulin reduces the sugar level by converting to fat and storing the fat. Thats why you get fat.

It also depends on what you eat w/ your subway. Are you going to get the bag of chips and soda w/ it? Or will you forgo those and eat some grapes and a water?

So if eating at subway is an improvement over the alternative, its a plus. The sandwich is not a healthy choice compared to a salad, but its a better choice than a quarter pounder, fries and coke .

Anyway, thats my thought.

The turkey avocado bacon salad - it's the BEST! Turkey, avocado, bacon, green pepper, onions, olives, double spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes. Needs no dressing because of the avocado. Don't let them chop it up. Much better just like it is. I love it!

if you have to have the bread ask them to take out the center and fill it with more veg/... thats what i use to do, but i no longer eat at subway. i dont eat gluten .. and any salad there i can make better at home. but if i had to i would go with a huge salad with veggies ask for some lemon slices and sprinke with salt and pepper or a basalmic vinegar.

sorry -too- processed. I avoid that place like the plague.

What are some other options?

Do you have a Trader Joe's near by?

TJ for lunch:
Salads go light on the dressing
fruit
organic beef jerky
carrots and hummus
cheese
deli turkey(rap around carrots or w/ cheese)

many products with no hydrogenated oil or corn syrup

lol - I find healthy Chinese to be one of THE most depressing meals or order/take out! I think it's b/c I'm paying a lot for stuff I can easily make myself at home! I wish I could order well and be excited about it.

TJ lunch ideas - so, a lot of the same stuff you can get at most grocery stores. Their stuff may be absent a few things, but like Whole Foods processed stuff...not necessarily 'healthful' and deserving of the health halo it gets!
