Your small meals should consist of things like:

almonds (6-10)
veggie sticks (1 cup of raw veggies)
r.f. cheese (1 oz)
yogurt (l.f. kind) 8 oz)

Having protein throughout your day should help you with hunger. I try to get a small amount at each meal. I do feel more satisfied. I also find that drinking water with my small meals helps too. Try taking in about 80 oz a day.

A lot of my munchie urges come from just wanting to have something for my mouth to do (much more from thirst or boredom than from actually being hungry). So I try to keep a water bottle around like the poster above said. And I chew gum sometimes if that's not working.

Do a quick calorie check - are you eating enough every day to maintain your weight or at least to lose weight at a healthy rate?

Try things that take longer to eat

Sometimes it helps to break things down by calories per hour.

For instance if I only want to consume 1800 cals that day, I figure I'll be awake for 16 hours...That gives me 112 cals an hour to consume. So I pick various foods and portion sizes that are 112 cals or less. Then I eat slowly while I work and throughout the day. It can be more tedious than it's worth if you can't pick out your foods for the day in advance or you don't have a good idea of how many calories is in what. But doing that can also help you learn to spot the low calorie stuff.

I wouldn't advise doing this long term but every now and again actually makes me get tired of eating simply because I have to put the extra work into it and I lose that urge to constantly have something in my mouth.

If you're honestly hungry, look at the content of your foods. Are you getting enough fats? That's probably the biggest cause of hunger amongst people on this website! About 30% of your calories should be coming from fat; if everything you eat is low fat, then that's probably not happening.

A good snack that leaves me not hungry for awhile is 2 Wasa crackers w/ a thin layer of peanut butter on each - eating them separately, rather than as a "sandwich," makes me fuller too. That's about 120 cals or so, could be more, depending on the type of Wasa and the type of peanut butter. Also, 1 serving of raw, unsalted almonds - 27 almonds - is good to munch on, and although you won't be stuffed, you shouldn't be hungry afterwards. That's about 180 calories. Instead of a bowl of cereal in the morning, which always leaves me hungry, I'll either cut up a whole banana on top, or I'll eat a cup of yogurt mixed with steel cut oats (just the big round box of Quaker Oats from the oatmeal aisle), no cooking or anything, just the yogurt softens them. Sometimes I'll add blueberries or something to that. Those are both pretty filling breakfasts, and leave me good for at least a few hours where I don't really need to eat.

Another option is to snack on foods that take "work" to eat, like nuts that are still in their shell, edamame, etc. Then, at least, you're eating slowly and you should be able to tell when you're full better. Another good rule is to only eat one at a time - 1 nut at a time, finish chewing before the next; 1 piece of cereal at a time if you're eating it dry, 1 piece of popcorn at a time, etc. Then even constant eating isn't as bad as if you're eating handfuls constantly.
