Questions on The Zone

what are your experiences following this?

My parents have had huge success on the Zone. I'm not sure how much they've lost, but they both look great, and my mom no longer takes diabetes meds to control her insulin levels. It has totally revamped how they eat - and they definitely do not view it as just being on a diet.

That said, they are both pretty analytical people. My dad especially really gets into the whole measuring things out and figuring out the cal/fat/protein percentages of new foods and finding combos that give 30-30-40. (He's an engineer...) My mom does it much more by rule of thumb (she needs a hunk of lean protein that is the size of her palm, rather than one that weighs exactly 3.0 oz, like for my dad).

But I do think you need to like this kind of thing and be easily motivated by guidelines like these. That said, I have tried to follow their example, and have been adding more protein to my diet and trying to avoid refined carbs (I don't follow the zone completely, but I do aim for more balanced diet), and it has helped my snacking, and I think it has helped me lose weight (I've also been doing other things, so I can't be sure how much to attribute to eating like this).

Thanks, this feedback is helpful. Has anyone tried to combine the Zone with Weight Watchers- using WW for points and Zone to eat better?

I combine the Zone with weight watchers. I don't think weight watchers teaches you about how to have energy but it's easier to eyeball portions if you're familiar with the points system. The zone is a fantastic diet.

I read the zone book and it makes a lot of sense to me. A true zone diet seemed entirely too rigit to me but I did incorporate the concepts of balancing my food. For me, this meantb adding more lean protein (for me that was meat) and a few more good fats and less carbohydrates. That change has really helped me stabilize my blood sugars. I used to get low blood sugar all of the time, now I'm much more even. I can't say it helped me lose weight, but I felt better. What is helping me loose weight is just eating healthier, focusing on veggies and trying to avoid most sweets.
