OT: Any Texans own an Obra home?

My husband and I are looking to buy our first home this summer. We live in Houston and are looking for feedback from anyone who bought a home from Obra Homes. Anything is helpful since I can't find much about them on the internet! Thanks in advance!

Obra Home

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased home from Obra in May 2006.Signed a purchsed agreement stating it would be a HOA and Deed restriction none of this has happened Obra doesnt returned phone I have called several times an gotten no help when we got our 1st bill the HOA I called to see waht was going when would the HOA be switched to the residents instead of a managment company aftervseveral calls an no answers I was finally told we have no HOA. Now this was a brand new community so this has truely turned to a horrible mess. Then to top everything else off Obra has not switched the subdivision over to the county so they are resposible to cutting lots an maintaining what goes on in the community but that is not happening. We are now in the process of hiring a lawyer. This is the worst company I have ever done buisiness we their moto a Whole lot of house for just a little money has some truth to you pay for what you get ...............DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE OBRA MADNESS

SAVE YOURSELVES FROM OBRA!!!!

My parents and I bought two homes from Obra in the Fox Hollow Subdivision in 2005 and in 2006. IT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE EVER!!!! very cheap labor and everything is falling apart after only two years. We also have tried to contact OBRA to get them to come and fix things in the house that were wrong from the beginning but it was like pulling teeth! They would come and tried to patch things up but it would not be completely fixed. we are trying to sell our home but i am concerned that we may have to add a lot more money and loose some more since Obra doesnt have that good reputation any more. AND FOR GOOD REASON. all of the neighboors i have spoken to have had problems with OBRA. I read an article today about a ruling in the Texas Supreme Court against Obra Homes. Check it out. We've had trouble with the HOA also. There is none but yet we keep paying so much every year. they do NOTHING.
sorry but we do not have many good things to say about OBRA HOMES NOR THE PEOPLE THAT MANAGE IT.

Obra should not build homes

My Husband and I purchased a new home in 2007. In the subdivision we chose, we had several choices of home builders and thoroughly investigated each home builder as well as went to see homes during construction. Obra homes were the worst. Barely meeting standards, cheap construction materials and what appeared to be the cheapest labor. Now Obra has pulled out leaving vacant lots and mid constructed homes. My nieghbors can not reach Obra to fullfill warranties and corporate office phone numbers no longer work.
Obra advertises Big Home Small Price, well you pay for what you get and it is not much. all though once you close on your home, the following year your tax appraisal will sky rocket to the current market values of the surrounding homes. For Example, Supreme Homes builds a 2700 sq feet home priced at 198,000. Obra builds a 2700 sq ft home and prices it at 143,000. The following year, your home appraisal will be that of 198,000 dollar home because of market value. Supreme homes are beautiful homes with a lot of design, lofty areas and the home seems smaller (small bedrooms). Supreme has brick all the way around and bricked front porches, arches and lovely designed homes. Obra is a huge box with wide open spaces, brick fronts and very large rooms. There is not much of a design, just a box. But your tax appraiser will appraise it at a price that matches homes with the same sq ft, amount of bedrooms and bathrooms, not design or layout.
Another item, Obra uses junk wood, pieces of wood molded together. 2x4's are not one long piece, they are small pieces fitted together to create the length they need. This weakens the support of the home. Texas has tornado's so this should be deeply considered.
*Note: I did not purchase a home from any company I stated in my reply. I love my home builder and would love to brag, but I wanted to make a point about purchasing obra homes.
Investigate your builder, check the BBB for the amount of complaints and how they handled the complaints, that is easy to get on the net. View the homes under construction, Check those bathrooms and your plumbing (numerous homes in my area by obra have had to have pipes repaired). Look for Obras corporate office phone number on the net, they make it hard to find. But you can find other builders easily.
Hope this helps!

ObrA Homes Location

For those of you looking for there location, they are hiding out at: 9186 Katy Freeway on the 2nd floor of Flagstone Lending Group Building. As soon as you walk up the stairs, the door in front of you is their new hiding spot.

Article in Valley MoringStar about Obra

It appears that an entire subdivision is underwater due to poor construction practices.

OBRA HOMES

WELL IT IS NOT FUN OWNING AN OBRA HOME I TO HAVE HAD MY SHARES OF REPAIRS. OBRA IS NOW HIDING UNDER NATIONS DIRECT LOAN SERVICING INC. I HAVE HAD MY HOUSE FOR SOME YEARS NOW. MY INTEREST IS 11.9%. I TRIED TO HAVE MY MORTAGE MODIFIED WITH THE OBAMA PLAN WELL GUESS WHAT I FOUND OUT THEY ARE MORE OWNER FINANCED. IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE THERE IS ONLY THREE ORINGAL OWNERS. ALL THE OTHER HOUSE THAT I ARE ON MY STREET HAVE HAD MORE THAN TWO OWNERS,SOME EVEN UP FOUR. WELL AFTER 8 YEARS OF HAVING MY HOUSE ( I AM THE ONLY OWNER BRAND NEW) THEY HAVE FORCLOSED ON IT. NOW I AM GOING THROUGH LEGAL CHANNELS. TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND NOT AFFORD ANOTHER HOUSE. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE HAD SOME FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, BUT THIS PEOPLE WOULD NOT HELP OUT. NOT EVEN TAKE WHAT I HAD. MY ADVICE TO ALL NEVER OBRA. THE INVESTORS ARE FROM MEXICO WITH THE LAST NAME OF CHAPA'S I BELIEVE. SO TO THOSE THAT STILL HAVE YOUR OBRA HOME WACTH OUT. TO I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THE COMPANY WAS CHANGING UNTIL I GOT THE FIRST COUPON FRON NATIONS. IN THERE WORDS THEY ARE NOT A BANK OR A MORTGAGE COMPANY SO WHAT ARE THEY. KNOW ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOUR COMMENTS WERE POSTED. BUT I HAVE SPEND DAYS LOOKING IN THE INTERNET FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THEM ALL I GET IS DEAD ENDS. GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU WITH OBRA HOMES.

There was a fan walking the Ohio State concourse wearing a
  • Wholesale Jerseys , and when approached about why he bought a fake jersey he became offended because he was unaware it was fraudulent. That fan bought the jersey on Amazon.com, so he felt it was a legitimate place to purchase such a
  • San Diego Chargers
  • .Most fans are like O'Hara, though. They know that the NCAA restricts Ohio State from authorizing a jersey with a current player's name on it, but they buy them from online retailers. The most popular one is AliExpress.com, the international version of Amazon. It's an aggregator of countless independent retailers that will send consumers in the United States the product directly. It usually takes three weeks, but the product comes.

But sometimes those products are sold second-handedly on places like EBay or Amazon
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • , which is how unsuspecting consumers unaware of what's legitimate end up buying them."The people I've talked to, the majority of people know they're fake and don't care," Van Brimmer said. "That's distressing."

    Impact on Ohio State

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told cleveland.com that a very small portion of the program's revenue on apparel comes from
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • sales. It may be smaller than he thought off hand.
  • St.Louis Rams
  • sales accounted for less than one percent of Ohio State's overall apparel business the last fiscal year. That figure is down from the six-year average of 1.51 percent. Jersey sales peaked in 2011 and declined every year since until last season
  • Stitched NFL Patch
  • , but last season included special national championship product.

During the last fiscal year -- July of 2014 to June of 2015 -- Ohio State made $1.6 million on
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • , which was 0.7 percent of total apparel sales that totaled $221 million. Sales of T-Shirts, sweaters, hats, shorts, pants and things like that make up the majority. The number of jerseys may seem overwhelming at a game, but in the grand scheme of apparel, they're not the top thing purchased. But that doesn't mean the the mass counterfeit sales of
  • Tennessee Titans
  • isn't a concern for Ohio State."There's a quality issue. Where was it made? How was the worker treated? There's a lot of issues involved," Van Brimmer said. "Counterfeiting is a crime."And Ohio State is having a really hard time of shutting it down. In the old days, counterfeit jerseys were made in mass in places like China and brought through a port of
  • Washington Redskins
  • into the United States in a place like New Orleans. Many times, those counterfeits were intercepted by U.S. customs agents and they never saw the secondary market.

Now those manufacturers are making and shipping those counterfeits directly to the consumer, so it's much harder for Ohio State to track and shut down. Ohio State tries to shut down every fraudulent manufacture it comes across -- places like AliExpress have fraud departments -- but most times those manufacturers pop back up under different names almost immediately.Ohio State sales are
  • NBA Shop
  • , though. It's just hard not to notice when you go to a football game that those fakes are floating around everywhere you look, whether the fan knows it or not."From a total sales perspective, we've seen nothing but increases this year," Van Brimmer said. "It's hard to say what the impact is because things are good
  • NHL Shop
  • . If things were in the toilet we could tell you something's going on and things are going badly."But the problem with these kind of goods is that we can't track them and we don't know how much we're losing or how many of the illegal goods are actually in the market place."

Replica and Retro: The Most Popular Jersey Options for Today's Fans

For most fans, there is exactly one kind of jersey on the shopping list before each new
  • New England Patriots
  • : A replica jersey that sports not only the team's colors and official logos, but also the name and number of a fan's favorite player. For those who are sticking with this traditional option, we have jerseys and styles for every single one of the NBA's teams nationwide. In addition to replica home

  • the look and feel of jerseys made in the 1990s and earlier. With timeless logos and even some retro player names or numbers, these jerseys are as in-demand as they are collectible.

Championship Jerseys are a Great Way to Commemorate the Post-Season

    Commemoration jerseys for recent
  • Oakland Raiders
  • appearances are a great purchase for fans of the NBA's best teams. These jerseys swap team colors and officially licensed logos for NBA Finals branding, championship information, and team-specific championship logos. These jerseys are a must-have item for fans of championship teams
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • , since they're produced in limited quantities and they're almost always deemed a collectible item shortly after their numbers run out.

For Young Fans, There is No Shortage of Options

NBA teams know that the best way to create a strong base of fans is to start early
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • , and that's why all teams have committed to a series of baby and children's items that fit those new to the rules of the game. The NBA's baby options include baby-sized jerseys and "creepers," perfect for use at home during the big game. For kids, there are plenty of jersey options that are virtually identical to our adult-sized offerings
  • NFL Shop . Younger fans of the game will enjoy replica and retro jersey options, as well as a limited selection of away jerseys or alternate jerseys that they might find even more appealing.
