Treadmill Recommendations

I am looking into buying a treadmill. I am just too busy with school and young children that I am having a really hard time getting to the gym. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am looking for a good treadmill that can withstand lots of running while I am in law school. Thx!!

I have a C2200 Nordictrack Treadmill. It goes up to 12% incline and 10 mph. I do mostly walking so I'm not sure how good it is for running. It has "gel" shock absorbers on the platform, too.. I love it because it's programmable, plus it comes with its own programs. Supposedly, you can download "i-fit" programs from your MP3 Player and use them in the treadmill, too, but I haven't tried that feature. I also invested (separately) in a heartrate monitor by Accurate and we installed it in seconds into the treadmill...

I think our was about $899 plus tax (on sale) at Sears. I really like it-- its way better than the cheap one I had before.

I have the NordicTrack 7000 R Treadmill that has the reflex deck the other poster talked about -- I got it for about $1500 at a Nordic Track store and it's great. We probably didn't need all the bells and whistles it came with but I love those things.

It really is a great treadmill -- I can have problems with my knees sometimes and the reflex deck has really heled with that.

Thanks. So it sounds like I should stop by the Nordictrack store/Sears and check them out. Did you do any research into any other kinds? Any I should definitely avoid??

1:20 poster here:

I'd get the best you can afford. I feel that it is a good investment in your health. Think about it this way-- if you get a gym membership, it could cost you as much as a treadmill over the period of a year. If you invest in the treadmill, you will have that longer than the gym membership, plus, you can work out at any time of day, any weather, and for as long as you please.

For me, my hubby & I were looking for something that had good resistance and would be durable for the long haul. We invested in the extended warranty because I intend to do a lot of walking on the treadmill. For us, it was one of the best pieces of exercise equipment that we've invested in... If you intend to walk, you'll want to check into a durable motor--or you''ll wear it down and may need to replace the treadmill more often. I planned to walk more than run, so we didn't need the heaviest duty motor, but we tried to get a heavier duty one vs. the lighter duty ones.

Some machines are noisier than others, and it depends on the type of motor used. Make sure you walk on the display models and take note of how user friendly the buttons are on the treadmill. We liked the "1-touch" programming that our machine offered. Plus, some machines are WAY more expensive, but not necessarily worth the extra expense unless you intend to use them excessively (or if you have more than 1 or 2 users.)

Prior to the Nordicktrack I had a cheap one that I got from a friend-- it didn't have the "shocks" in the platform, it only went up to about 3.5 mph, had a cheap motor and I totally noticed the difference. Also, if you get one that can "fold away" and has wheels on the bottom, it makes it easier to move if you need to put it away. :-)

One thing-- we put our machine in the basement of our house. We opted to set it up ourselves. Setting it up wasn't much of an issue, but getting it into the basement was a true ordeal-- it is a VERY heavy piece of equipment and in a huge box! (We were so afraid that we might injure ourselves that we put the cordless phone at the bottom of the stairs in case the box went awry and ran one of us over... LOL). If you are not able to lift heavy things, or if you don't have a few strong friends to help you, I would recommend paying the extra to have the store ship it and set it up for you... :-) (We were cheap and we opted not to.) Luckily, we didn't kill ourselves, but now I understand the value of having someone else take care of setting it up for you! We found it pretty easy to put together, it just took a little time and careful following of directions. :-)

Hope you find something you like! :-)
