great new find- vegetarian beans!

Ok, I have to say it, I love refried beans. What is the big problem with that? They are made with pork lard and are pretty bad for you.

Know what I found at the grocery yesterday? VEGETARIAN REFRIED BEANS! Still cheap, still tasty, NO LARD.
Plenty of fiber that I wouldn't get anywhere else. NO FAT. None.

Plenty of protein.

Hooray! (I just thought I would celebrate here)

Thanks for the heads up on the beans. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to get their fiber and protein from beans........love them......I feel like I'm not hungry for 4-5 hours after I eat beans, they just stay with me a long time.
OP, what do you usually eat with your beans?

I've been using Rosarita No Fat Vegetarian Refried Beans for years! Rosarita brand has three kinds: regular, lard-laden beans; vegetarian beans made with some vegetable fat; and the no fat version. I love making tortillas and just scooping up the beans with them (topped with a bit of cheese and some green onions...)

I'm always looking for ideas on how to fix the refried beans or serve them with, any suggestions?

Warning!!

I just looked at the ingredients on the regular refried beans and they contain partially hydrogenated oils, so that means TRANS FATS, so be very careful of those products. As you know, Trans fats clog your artries faster than ice melts in hell!!

beans and rice combine to make a perfect protein - yet another reason to eat more!

My favorite way to eat refried beans is mixed about half and half with rice, quite a bit of salsa on top, a little melted cheese, and some plain yogurt (Fage tastes just like sour cream to me, but it has no fat and way more protein). It's my quick and easy dinner because I can keep all the ingredients on hand.

old el paso has made vegetarian refried beans for years and they don't taste any different than the regular kind.
