Dramatic weight loss in first week normal?

Hey all, I was wondering if you could share with me what your lifestyle changes did for you in your first week of starting them. A friend told me that a big weight loss occurs at the beginning of every program, and eventually slows down a bit.

This is my first week on here. I started at 160, I'm over 5'8" tall, and the scale says I've lost about 6 pounds. Is this normal for the first week?

I just want to know what you think, and what your experience was.

OP here - not that it matters, but starting weight was actually 170... 160 is gonna happen eventually! :)

You do tend to lose a good bit of water weight the first week - it should level off to 1-2 pounds a week fairly soon after that.

I lost 4 lbs the first week I started counting WW points. Of course, I wasn't using any of my flex points so I felt dreprived and starved! But, once i figured out a balance it was about 1 -2 lbs a week or sometimes nothing. Your body will do anything to hold onto that fat!!!

Thank you for your comments! I don't feel so weird now.
I do feel quite hungry all the time! Hopefully I'll find that balance soon, without gaining some of this back.

By the way, way to go friends! Sounds like you are talking from experience, which makes me happy to hear you are achieving your goals. Thanks for your help.

If you're hungry a lot, you might try incorporating more protein into your diet - that can help you feel fuller, longer.

I lost nine pounds in the first week of my new program, then lost one additional pound in the next three weeks. I really do think it all balances out in the end.
