thoughts on diet coke vs. coffee

Never been a coffee drinker....was addicted to Diet Coke but have given it up all but one in the morning for a caffeine wake up boost. Would it be better for me to switch to coffee and give up diet coke all together?

diet soda is terrible for your body...why not try tea? there are many caffeinated teas out there and they could make a delicious hot or cold beverage any time of day...good for you and low in calories, while providing some of that much-needed water.

Why is diet soda terrible for your body?

I used to drink diet soda constantly...pretty much from the age of 13 to present (35), but in the past few weeks, I have given it up for water. I was surprised to find that I usually don't miss it, but every once in awhile I will crave it. I always thought it was just like "flavored" water?

OP here

Don't care for the taste of tea...are there any caffeinated fruit flavor teas out there that don't taste like tea?

just a couple quick pieces of info...

Aspartame: This chemical is used as a sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilispsy/seizures. Further, when aspartame is stored for long periods of time or kept in warm areas it changes to methanol, an alcohol that converts to formaldehyde and formic acid, which are known carcinogens.

Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects, and perhaps some forms of cancer.

I don't care for the taste of "tea" either, but I have been enjoying some really good, sweet basically herbal mixtures which don't have any actual tea leaves in them. (I really like it sweet, I use Splenda... who knows if that's bad for you or not)

Yogi Hazelnut Vanilla
Bigelow Vanilla Caramel
Stash Vanilla Nut
Stash Decaf Creme Caramel
Celestial Seasonings Fruit Tea Sampler (Country Peach is great iced), Dessert Teas (almond sunset, english toffee and vanilla hazelnut)

I would say moderation is the key here. Obviously someone drinking 24 cans of diet soda per day is going to have to worry about the aspertame side effects. I doubt if you are drinking 1 can a day it is harmful. I drink 1 diet soda per day and I'm just fine! Sometimes I drink 2!! I'm not one of those people that stresses about any "unnatural" thing I put in my body though...
I like the carbonation and the taste but I like tea too. Also my soda consumption does not interfere with my water intake.
Just my opinion though!
