treadmill and knee pain

When I run outside I never get pains in my knees but every time I run on a treadmill, I get an ache in my left knee. Has anyone had this happen?

I have - you're probably changing your stride somewhat on the treadmill as opposed to the way you run outside (taking shorter or longer strides). I'm not sure what to suggest aside from trying to match your treadmill speed as closely as possible to your normal pace.

I have found my local running shoe specialty store to be a great resource when I have aches and pains. They've seen just about everything, and can also look at your shoes and your gait to see what you might be doing.

maybe you are getting a little less resistance on the treadmill than with the ground?
