Feels so good to confront problems

I never fail to feel better and more relaxed after I confront something I am dreading. Why is that, and more importantly, why don't I remember that?

Amen! I just quit my job... I was dreading it and felt sick up to the point that I actually said the words to my boss. But now it's over and I'm ten-fold happier! The unhappiness I faced before caused me a whole range of emotions that I didn't want to address and so food became a comfort. Now I'm happy and better able recognize emotions (both positive and negative) and deal with them with ways other than coping with food. This is day two, and so my celebrations have been a bit indulgent but I'm back in control.!
