i seriously do not understand what is happening with this link. i hit the link and am directed to my own log. over and over this has happened. are others being directed to the same place? what is the page you are directed to?

If you are already a member of the group, you go to the group. There would be no reason to go to the team detail page to learn more about the team when you are already a member, so you go directly there.

my group name is brookeaj default. i did not post often enough to remain in the group i joined. this has been my "group" since april (as a default, no-name group). now, when i hit the link above, i am directed to my log in the defaulted, me-only group. this is normal?

No it is not normal. The above link takes me to my own group too, which is a private un-advertised group.

PT - there seems to be a little bug somewhere
