OT -- Hurricane Katrina

It's horrific. I just keep watching the news and it's so sad. New Orleans is a special town. If you or your friends/family have suffered, my thoughts are with you.

I know.

If anyone has a specific organization that they think is worth contributing to, please let me know. TIA.

The Red Cross is asking for donations - they're definitely a good organization! I'm pretty sure you can make a donation to them through NBC's website - or through the Red Cross one itself!

url of relief organizations you can donate to

The NY Times has compiled a list of charities, including the Red Cross, that are helping Katrina victims.

You can find it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/30/national/hurricane-resources.html (also linked below).

I have heard that most charities are NOT interested in donations of food or clothing -- they need money. (It's more cost effective for them to buy clothing if needed than sort through other people's clothing.) Of course, there may be exceptions, so investigate first.

I am also told Red Cross is probably the very best organization to give to, but there are many other worthy ones, and this is going to be a very long, drawn out effort.... an entire city destroyed, it's hard to believe...

Oh, and I've also heard this would be a good time to donate blood, there are a lot of injuries and sick people...
