richard simmons

i have not seeen much of him lately, but i remember he was very successful with motivating people in the 80's & 90's. does anyone out there in pt-land have any experiences with his workouts? i am pretty large and have an idea that i might enjoy starting some aerobic exercises with his videos.

I have one of his videos and yes I think he is kind of a dork, but he is also a lot of fun. I think you should try it out!

does that indicate some experience with his videos? i'm not sure if you actually tried his workouts or just found him amusing in general. i'd have to agree that i found his persona to be very amusing, but am seriously curious about how effective his routines were/are.

ironic, i just saw him on the news yesterday talking about hurricane katrina - he is originally from new orleans and his brother's home was completely wiped out. he bought the guy a brand new house. he also cried on the news because people in new orleans were eating to deal with the stress.... why that makes him cry but the people losing their homes doesn't, who knows.

now, back to the original question. seeing him on the news made me think about a "sweatin to the oldies" video of his that i did once. my college roommate and i found it buried in a pile of video's at another friend's house (about 6 or 8 years ago) and decided to do it as a joke. we were giggling during the entire warm-up, but soon found ourselves actually out of breath and getting a good work-out. we were embarressed to tell people that we got in a good work-out with a richard simmons video, but we really worked up a great sweat! they're definitely great work-outs, as long as you can admit that you are getting richard simmons videos.

Whatever works. Who cares if he is a terrible dresser? It can't hurt.

walking tapes

I was a sucker once for the tv-ads for his walking tapes (used them a few times) and there were a lot of fun. Dang it - I think I sold them in a garage sale a few years ago or gave them away. Anyway, he's a dork but he's funny and as the previous writer commented - he gives you a run for your money. You will get a work out and he's fun. Best of all - you can probably find him at Value Village or your library for cheap!!

Hey! I used to love the Richard Simmons videos! Not only did I love them but so did my mother and my sisters! He really is fun and motivational despite the fact that he's a big dork, and his workouts are fun and you can get into the rhythm of things after a couple times watching the tape... My personal favorite is "Sweatin to the Oldies" It has great music, upbeat and fun, and it's a good workout... The disco one wasn't bad, but not nearly as fun (I thought) as the Oldies one! Good luck!

Good luck! I've used his videos in the past and although yes he's dorky he's so entertaining and funny and silly that the workout doesn't feel as much like a workout.

At one time I lost almot 80 lbs doing a variety of his videos; unfortunately I stopped doing them and most different kinds of exercises and gained it all back plus some. Wish I had the room space to go back to doing them. I love Richard Simmons, even if I won't admit it in public ;) lol

I like Richard Simmons!

I will admit in public that I like him! I think he wants to be memorable and make people lighten up (mind and body:) ) . if bad clothes helps him get ratings, all the power to him!

I think his overall goal of helping people lose weight is commendable!

I so remember working out to his sweating to the oldies or something like that with my mom as a kid. After the birth of my son I found one of his videos at a garage sale and picked it up... it's fun to do even now.

So we all think he's funny and a nerd, but the fact is that doing ANYTHING, is better than doing nothing, and if it's what will keep you motivated, go for it... And good luck, I liked Richard too, even if he's made himself look goofy in public, he's helped a gazillion men and women, whom I'm sure would tell you the same thing.... I think his along with any other program can be successful for you, BUT IT"S UP TO YOU! You are the key to your success... It's has taken me many years to realize that I was my own worst enemy.

GOOD LUCK

Yes, I too will admit in public that I like Richard Simmons! He's done a lot of good for people, so what if deal a meal was goofy or if he looks funny. I've been wanting to try the DVD's but you all have convinced me to give it a try. Come on, give the guy a break! He's got a good heart and most of us wish we were in such good shape as he is!

I agree, he does have a very good heart :)

I love the fact that his videos have heavy people in them. Makes me feel more comfortable and I always think to myself if they can do it then so can I.

Sometimes I try these other workout videos and know the only way I'd ever be able to do them is if I was way more in shape then I am now lol

I love love love Richard Simmons!
