photo editing in magazines

check out the link below - CBS photo-shopped a picture of katie couric and slimmed her down 20lbs! an insider said that they were following "normal industry practice." if normal industry practice is to photoshop everyone thinner, then i can imagine those models as fat as i want and chalk it all up to photoshop.

My good friend is a beauty photographer and you wouldn't believe the changes he makes to top models in the industry. Especially their skin. The scars, the zits, all zapped away. Photoshop is a beautiful thing but hard for the rest of our self esteem.

don't they think people are gonna wonder why she looks so much thinner in the promo ads than on the actual broadcast? it seems silly, unless they plan to alter ALL future appearances digitally or however. i'd take a stand if i were her. she's got the clout to make a real statement about women in the media and the perception the public has of them.

What amazes me about that article is that the journalist and editor apparently don't know the difference between "slight" and "sleight." (The phrase they mean to use is "sleight of hand.")

One of the graphic arts people at my job Photoshopped what was meant to be my official pic to make me look a LOT younger than I am -- not desirable in my position.

This does happen all the time. Maxim edited Beyonce Knowles to look less "bootylicious" and people were pretty upset! They said she and her butt wouldn't fit on the page right, so they trimmed it...it was pretty obvious even before they admitted it. I mean when you looked at it, it was like...um, where did her butt go?

What famous men have been altered? There was an ad campaign a couple of years ago (can't remember what it was for, maybe Prada?) with David Bowie and Iman. No need to make David any thinner, but they sure did make him 20 years YOUNGER than he is. Yum yum!

I think it's just wrong. No wonder people can't live up to the extreme pressures of hollywood... they can't even live up to them they have to be photoshopped to look that good.

Obviously they DO know the difference between slight and sleight, or they wouldn't have put slight in quotation marks. They're making a joke - - using "slight" in reference to her size.

I have to admit, however, that I wouldn't have known the difference at all if you hadn't pointed it out.

Not only do they photoshop away flaws but many of the fashion and beauty magazines will interchange "parts" they'll use the upper body of a model and the lower body of a much younger girl (think teenage and sometimes even pre-teen age girls)

I don't know which magazines do this and I can never tell; but a friend of mine actually helped them pick out pictures to use...darn him for not wanting to divulge which magazine it was for though.

Darnit no edit button...I'd also like to say that the article did say she wasn't aware of what was going on...then at the end the journalist quotes a nutritionist who says that Couric should just cut back on junk and work out more. It might just be me; but I think she looks fantastic just like she is. She looks healthy and non-anorexic. Who's to say she isn't happy at the size she is?

This is partly what's wrong with our society and our teenage girls developing eating disorders and self-esteem issues. In today's society it's not acceptable for a woman to be a very healthy size 10 - 12; instead in order to be "desirable" you have to be a size 2 or a size 6. IMO absolutely ridiculous.

Ok I'm off my soapbox now; sorry everyone lol.
