Does anyone eat these regularly, alone or as a burger. Are they filling? They seem like an ideal food- too good to be true?

I love them. I like to put them on a grill with some olive oil, and salt, and cook them up, or chop and cook with onion and a bit of butter and mix with pasta

I've seen a recipe for a portabella mushroom personal-sized pizza, but can't seem to find it now. Essentially, the recipe substituted a mushroom for the crust, thus drastically reducing the calories.

Try BBQing them! YUMMY! I don't know that they're as filling as a regular burger, if only because they don't have the protein in them, but they are a pretty good substitue (but honestly, they don't taste the same as a burger).

Remember, it's a huge mushroom, with hardly any calories, so sure, it will fill you up but it might not stick with you. But, if you have some other protein and good fats in your meal it could be a good burger substitute. Mushrooms have some great micronutrients very high in chromium for one thing.
If you expect it to taste like a burger you may be dissappointed, but if you are open to other flavors, I'm sure you'll like it.
As for the pizza - just put your regular pizza toppings on it and bake it like a little pizza.

When I was doing Atkins, I'd make a huge open-face burger and use a portobello mushroom as the bun (using 2 is too much mushroom). I'm not doing Atkins these days, so I put a Boca burger on the portobello.

i posted this in another thread a while back. it is delicious! the fiber in the unpeeled carrots and the portobella mushrooms really helps bind the burgers.
i cut portabello mushrooms, carrots (unpeeled), onions, red bell pepper and eggplant into chunks, toss with olive oil, herbs & seasonings, and roast for about 35 minutes or until tender. let cool slightly and in a cuisinart or other chopper, pulse until mixed well-not completely minced, but still a little chunky. mix in some brown rice (cooked and cooled). form into patties and chill before grilling or baking. enjoy!
