I hate housework too, so I put on some great music that I can sing along to as I work, get stuck in and think about all the calories I'm burning =)

Music is a great idea; I also break it up. Allow myself a five minute break after every 20 minutes of work to do whatever I want. The only problem is sometimes I don't wanna go back to it - especially when I get engrossed in a book lol

Sometimes I do the housework while watching TV and on commercials I run and do a little bit in teh rooms that don't have a TV -- pretty much just the bathroom! LOL

Sometimes I do the music thing too! I like to get it done early, before my weekend starts -- so the house is sparkly for the weekend in case I have company! :)

make believe that you are on a new reality show where exercise and housework are combined and try to do a full-circuit. you could do deep lunges to dust the coffee table, crunches to pick stuff up off the floor, however you can be creative!

My motivation for cleaning is how good I feel afterward. I'm one of those people who needs to be in control, and when my house is clean and decluttered, I feel soooooooo much better. When I want to procrastinate, I also remind myself that whatever mess is there now, it will only be worse by tomorrow.

Do a little at a time so the mess doesn't build up. Wash your plate right away after a meal. Hang up clothes directly out of the laundry - it's not so hard to fold socks if you only have three pairs to match up. Keep those lysol wipes around and wipe off the bathroom and kitchen sink really quick after you are done using them. Take off your shoes before you come inside - you won't have to sweep as often. Ask your roommate/spouse/family for help.

My husband and I have a one hour cleaning session every Sunday morning. We get up early, hit the gym for an hour, then come home and clean while we are still in our gym clothes. Then we take showers and enjoy brunch in our freshly cleaned kitchen!

Get a cleaning lady! Just kidding - I am a cleaning lady. I do housework all day every day, so I try to get into a routine each place that I clean. It makes things much more efficient. For example, you can take an empty trash bag with you up or down the stairs while you're also taking the vacuum with you. That way, you can vacuum and empty trash cans while you're on that level and you're just making one trip. That's not the most effective way to force yourself to do get more exercise out of housework, but little timesavers like that do make a big difference. It leaves more time for "regular" exercise.

As someone else who hates cleaning... I throw on a CD I really love and clean non-stop while its playing. It helps to know I've got a set amount of time, and when the music's done i can quit!

I did what 1:36 poster said to do, and am I glad I got a cleaning couple! They have become good friends, and I now have no excuses for not tackling my clutter and other bigger projects that housecleaning use to suck up my "free" time. Plus since a non-family member witnesses improvements, it is a good motivator.

Check out www.flylady.com. I've read the book and recommend it to anyone who needs organization in their life and some help getting the cleaning done. I've got mine broken up into days. Monday I change bedding, Wednesday I clean bathrooms and dust and Fridays I vacuum, sweep and mop.

I write a daily list of five things I want to accomplish -- for example, 1. one load of laundry; 2. clean all toilets; 3. vacuum downstairs; 4. change the sheets on all the beds; 5. dust the livingroom. I cross things off as I do them -- it's amazing how good it makes you feel when you've finished the items on the list. I also set a timer, which makes me move faster and just get things done instead of procrastinating. I set the timer for 15 minutes to unload the dishwasher. Another 15 minutes to load it; 15 minutes to clean the toilet, etc. Break your chores up into 15 minute cleaning blasts and take a 15-minute break between them. Hope this helps! Oh, another motivator is inviting people over. I try to have someone over at least once a week -- keeps me honest!

I second the 11:48 poster yesterday! Flylady.com is a God send!!!

I follow Fly Lady's methods of cleaning. Even if you start doing just one or two of her "baby steps" you will notice a tremendous difference in the way your house looks and you will feel less pressured!!

For anyone that struggles getting everyone to do their part around the house and they find they're the only ones cleaning......

I found the greatest site that helped me organize the chore lists for everybody yesterday. I'm not sure if it will work but it seems like a better system than any of the other chore charts I've tried - it ties the allowance right in to the chores too! You can use their drop down list of chores or add your own - I've added a few of my own Fly Lady chores like "shine my sink". I loaded everyone in my family up with chores including hubby and myself!

Here's another one a couple of friends and I have used - we get together and have a little cleaning party, on time at her house, next time at mine. Combine it with a little socializing and it's not so awful! Fun even sometimes. This can be used for organizing stuff sessions, yardwork, etc! Old saying is true - many hands make light work!
