TV Mini workouts

I admit that I have couch potato tendencies. I am thinking about introducing a kind of Pavlov dog psychology thing where I will do an exercise everytime a certain kind of commercial comes on.

I am thinking about using a stack of poker chips to keep count...

Everytime say a car commercial comes on I will do 30 mountain climbers, then move 1 chip into the "done" pile. 20 pushups for every prescription drug commercial. When I get through the stack of poker chips, I am exempt for the rest of the day.

What thoughts do you guys have for good exercises and good triggers? And has anybody tried this before?

maybe determine how many ads on average there are during a typical 30 minute program and come up with an assorted circuit routine to get through during each program. that way, if you tend to watch the same programs, you will still get a variety of exercises in. usually ads are targeted for the time of day and the show that is on. good concept!

Hey that's pretty good! Most of the programs I watch I TiVo so I sit on my stability ball and do upper body an upper body workout while the show is on then when it cuts to a commerical I rest and fast forward the commercials and start exercising again when my show is back on.

and while you're watching shows you can stretch, that won't be too distracting from the show (God forbid, haha!) People always ignore flexibility and it's just as important. When we're old and wrinkly we can be as skinny as we want but it won't mean anything if we can't stand up straight!

Another exercise you could do is chair dips to work your triceps.

You can also work your legs by doing lunges and squats with just your body weight. It won't feel like too much but it's definitely working your muscles.

If you need games to get going...

...here's one from my days on the wrestling team (um...I'm a girl, and I was the only one on the team):

Get a deck of cards. Assign an exercise to each suit. If you want more than 4 different ones, then come up with 8 and let the odd/even number decide which one you do. Then pick a card and do that many of the exercise. Example: spades = squats, hearts = push-ups, clubs = jump rope (imaginary rope), diamonds = lunges. If you pull the 8 of spades, you do 8 squats and then quick pick another card and move on. As you get fitter, you'll be able to get through more and more of the deck before you call it quits.
