Best Way to Build Muscle?

I am a guy and have dropped about 15 pounds- 210 to 195. I have developed the habit of exercising. Yoga, pushups. And I am making progress. But how to I step up the muscle building process- using my own bodyweight, not the gym or any of that stuff. Is it simply an issue of putting in more effort?

Pull-ups simply can't be beat for that and push-ups are quite good too. Google 'Calisthenics' and you should find a number of things you can do. Yoga should in fact get you quite ripped and Pilates will too. However you may not see results quite as quickly as you might with weight training but if you are dedicated and consistent you will most definitely see results and be much more flexible than the average body builder. Best wishes!

True - lifting weight will give you the fastest increase in muscle, however with that comes a higher injury rate (if working by oneself) and not stretching properly will cause your muscle to grow over each other causing muscle pain (my sister is in physio and the therapists has to rub VERY VERY hard which causes bruising etc...not sure what this is called, you might be able to find something online about it. If you stretch VERY well, this shouldn't be a concern.

Pilates and yoga will help build muscle and strength in the long run but does take longer to see the results. Works very well on streghtening and flexibility.

I will be starting Pilates soon!

If you have Netflix, you should rent some of the videos by Gilad (Bodies in Motion). It is all body resistance and they really work.
