tips on fasting
I will be observing the month of ramadan and will be fasting from sunrise to sunset. so I will not be able to eat or drink anything in this time frame. What foods should I choose? and hw should I work in exercising. I was thnking of going for a 30min bike ride before sunset. I would love some advice....

during the fasting period from sunrise to sunset, are you allowed to drink water? if not, i would try to wait until the time when you can and then go for a light ride or a vigorous walk. your calorie intake will probably drop, even though you will eat in the evening, so i don't think that lessening your exercise routine will be too detrimental on your body. be safe above all considerations!

thanks for your reply. No we are not allowed to have water. I think that I will go for a brisk walk after I open my fast that will aide in my digestion as well.

I would say if at all possible wait until after you have eaten to do any kind of excercise. I just don't think it's a good idea to be working out with no nutrients in your body.
I would also count calories this month it would be easy to say since I'm only eating after sunset and before sunset there is no way I can go over my calories and eat too much. Don't limit yourself too much but make sure your staying in line with your goals this month too.
Congratulations on your dedication, I'm lucky my religion doesn't ask me to do any fasting I don't think I could ever make it.

I would load up on the protein, and preferably animal, as it takes longer to digest, which means slower released enegy- good if you're not going to be eating for a while.

how is it going for you so far?

Though I don't fast for a month, I observe Yom Kippur. I work out as usual the day the fast starts (at sundown). I don't work out the next day and when I eat again, it is something relatively light. The day after Yom Kippur, I usually just walk or swim, nothing rigorous as I return to eating. Good luck.

hi its me the OP, today is day 3. it is going well. still trying to adjust the sleep patterns but other than that it is going well. the weather is not so hot so not feeling very thirsty. I eat this special dish we prepare called Haleem which is a type of oatmeal mixed with chicken it is really feeling and i usually have that in the morning at 5am. In the evening when I open my fast i usually have a date then drink a fruit smoothie and have traditional food which consists of lentils and this sour cream mix with whole grains. after i eat i do feel very fatigued. I am gonna try to drink more water lets see what happpens.
