cross country skiing
I was invited to go to a friend's house and they mentioned that they have cross country skiing. I've only been a downhill skiier and wanted to see if anyone knew anything about it, hard to pick up, how many calories burned, etc. TIA

without telling you how many calories, I will say it's a fabulous workout. Total body- upper and lower yet indescribably better than an elliptical. Totally different from downhill though. Kinda comparable to rollerblading, but not the same. I wouldn't say it's hard to pick up, but I'll assume that it should be a great workout your first time.

Yes, it's very different from downhill skiing. Think of it more like a walk in the park - it's not the same rush as downhill skiing, and you have to work at it, but it's really pretty (assuming you're going somewhere woodsy), and it's not quite like walking in snow b/c you don't sink in, and with the skis and the poles, you can kind of glide along. You can probably catch on pretty quickly. And yes, it's a great workout!
