Coffee/caffeine abuse for weightloss..
My friend is drinking gallons and gallons of coffee to lose weight and kill her appetite. What are the side effects of this? Aside from not taking in enough calories, going into starvation mode, losing weight in an unhealthy fashion... how can I scare her into not doing that? I mean, it's ok to have a coffee mid-afternoon to stave off the hunger pangs until dinner, but to drink so much in the morning that you have no appetite whatsoever for the rest of the day is dangerous. What are the side effects long term of caffeine abuse? (I've read lately that caffeine isn't so bad for you after all but I'd love to hear what others know about this) thanks!

If appealing to her on health grounds doesn't work, perhaps appeal to her vanity. Bad breath, brown teeth, dehydrated and older looking skin; all good reasons not to OD on the java. Also, I would assume this would, like any addiction, get pretty pricey. Slow and steady may take a while, but it's definitely easier on the wallet!

The acidity of the coffee could eventually throw her stomach chemistry off, causing REALLY bad breath.

heart palpitations, increased anxiety, diarrhea,-uggg, reasons enough to not drink too much coffee. tell you friend to drink water and snack on filling fruits and veggies instead!

i wouldn't want a friend of mine policing my way of doing things, but a word of advice might work. state your opinion on her over-consumption and leave it at that. sometimes people have to learn things on their own...
