Is 60 better then 30?

If I walk/run for 60 min one day and then walk/run for 30 min the next, but still achieve the same distance, which is the better workout?

hijack - I thought you were asking about age! I wanted to know the answer to that but I'd like to know the answer to this too...

it depends on what your goals are. Runner's world had a good article on this a couple of months ago -- speedwork vs. heartrate.

I was also thinking this was going to be a thread about age -- FWIW I'm enjoying 39 much more than 30; at this rate i expect to be dancing in the street by 60!

If your goal is to burn more calories, the faster workout is better -- but only moderately so. Calories burned is more dependent on the distance covered than on the speed at which that distance is covered (unless you are running faster than a 7-minute mile, which burns a lot more calories, but it sounds as if you aren't there yet).

what about running faster for 30min, then spending the extra time doing weight training or some other kind of cross training? That's best of all!
