LOL, I can blame Republicans for a lot of things, but not for making me fat!

Hmmm, considering my lifetime curve, I think I've lost weight during both Bush administrations! Maintained during the Clinton years, maybe because he made zaftig, dark-haired girls all the rage? :-)

and lose innocent life to extremist abortions, and embryonic stem cell research, and have the definition of marriage changed, and have your kids taught stuff you don't want them learning, give terrorists the rights of military men, make all illegal aliens legal while we food the bill...

Yeah, the Democrats and their special intersest groups will ensure this country changes where you will never reconize what it once was.

the Right has me with the kill the terrorist thing, but loses me completely at the abortion thing. I respect your belief about abortion, but don't force it on me. Got that? Or else we will elect Hillary next time. Because I have this nagging suspiscion that she won't tolerate crap from anyone- religious extremists here and abroad.

Honestly, how could the Democrats possible screw things up worse than this Republican administration has in the past 6 years. Those Clinton years... they sure were miserable. I would hate to go back to those grim days of prosperity & optimism. The horrors!!!

to the 8:35 poster, we wouldn't want to use those frozen embryos for research-far better we just toss them away when the parents decide they have no further use for them. Oh, forgot, we already do........I am capable of deciding how to handle my own reproductive health, as is my daughter. Funny typo, "food the bill"- since your food bill will go sky high if we don't have illegals here to work the fields, slaughter houses and chicken processing plants-extremely difficult and unpleasant work that only the most desperate Americans will take on. Since we can't get a good guest worker program in gear, there are plenty of corporate heads illicitly contracting the import of illegal workers, and I'm willing to bet they vote Republican.

Do you really think this is the place to bash republicans? Please spare us this shit. The whole political community needs to stop the frigging school yard antics and starting telling the voters what they stand for, what they want to change and how they plan on achieving their goals. But I guess that would be a novel idea. I am a bit republican, dem and liberal but I'm sick of all of it!!

Yeah, lets get the dems in office again so we can raise taxes, have the economy turn to shit, again, give all the illegals amnesty or worse support them with our money, open our boarders, put more useless social programs in place and close more of our military bases as well as intelligent branches. I'm with the 2:01 poster, I am tired of the bashing from all sides. Sadly everyone I speak to feels the same. We want things to change but there is no one out there willing to state what they really believe in and how they think they can achieve that. The government needs a complete overhaul. And I am a republican!

Yes, let's raise taxes!

You know what, I'm 100% serious. What do you think we are paying our military men and women with? We are paying them with money we are borrowing from Asia, rather than ponying up ourselves and keeping the budget balanced. Our kids will still be paying that interest in 20 years if we don't start paying the principal now. All of you who let Bush buy your vote the first time with that measly $300 tax rebate should be ashamed of yourselves.

Gee, that's a great idea. Lets just raise taxes, I assume you are a dem? Raising taxes isn't the right answer. I already live in a state where we pay some of the highest taxes in the country. I don't mind paying for some social programs but really its getting out of control. Raising taxes would only end up hurting the economy. Not to mention lower income families or worse single parent families who already can't afford life in general. Oh, wait I suppose you mean we should just raise taxes on the rich, do you honestly think its really fair that better off people should continue to have their taxes raised jsut because they have more money? I can tell you we are well of and you would be shocked at the amount of taxes we pay. Taxes isn't the answer, we need a complete overhaul and some honest people in DC who have real ideas and the means to set them in motion. There are some things I don't mind having higher taxes for, like schools, but in general for dems to get into office and instill yet another damn social program that keeps people in the system rather then helping them out of the system so they can be an actual productive part of society I can't deal with. If you ask me what we really need to do is take a real close look at the social programs and overhaul that.

Which "social programs" are you looking to cut? Social Security? Medicare? Do your homework! Learn about the federal budget. Very little of it goes to help the poor.

Yeah, I was just about to say that -- which social programs would those be? Hey it's not all Federal budget stuff. Check out your state budget -- they are all different.

I live in OK, which has the highest rate of hunger in the country. Definitely in need of a close look and an overhaul.

You know what, I would like two things: One, I would like more of my state income tax to go towards alleviating that problem. I would PAY more taxes gladly. (As it is, I donate to the food bank, but I'm sure many people are not aware of it.) But since we're against "social programs" we have hungry kids. I got to tell ya, you can put tons of money into education, but if the kids show up to school hungry education money does nothing for them. EVEN WORSE, we pay sales tax on food. That's about as regressive as a tax can get!

Now I ask, is any politician of either stripe addressing this in the election? Nope. They are all about "family values" and education. Every time I hear one of those "I support education" ads and then an ad appeal from the food bank I want to bang my head on the steering wheel....

there is waste to cut...

I live in one of the highest taxed states. With the dems having run the house, I have knowledge that they regularily extend the workday 1-2 minutes past a regular workday just to get the extra "day" of work on thier pay for that period.

I have a friend who is adopting a child through the foster care system. The state is paying this service of the sum of approximately $300 an HOUR for someone to watch a biological parent and child interact. Sometimes (sadly, a lot of times) the parent does not show... I am sure this rate is still charged.

I have knowledge that persons in the medical field, nurses in nursing homes and hospitals are ordered to throw away unused medication that has been nearly used by a medicaid patient. If the doctor prescribes one thing, before it is given to the patient, the doctor changes his mind for whatever reason and prescribes something else... the original (perfectly good) medication is TOSSED AWAY... and still charged to the taxpayers.

There are a lot of things that can be changed without cutting programs that are really neccessary.
Proud Republican.

To the 8:01 poster. I am a nurse in a pediatric hospital. Our licensing regulations (from JCAHO) require that ALL unused medications be wasted. I agree that this is a huge waste of money and have argued that unused medication be re used but the hospital and their licensing branch are looking at it from a safety standpoint. This applies to all patients. I have no idea which patients have Medicaid, private insurance or are uninsured. The argument is that once the bottle, vial, bag, whatever is opened, there is no way to insure that the contents have not been altered (that something else has not been intorduced). Given the amount of medication errors in hospitals (noted to be about one event a day per patient) would YOU want recycled medications?

If a medication is not used or opened it may be recycled. However, if something like an IV antibiotic is mixed, it may very well be based on weight or have a short shelf-life; more than likely those things can not be reused.

There is definitely waste in large medical instututions like hospitals and because of limited reimbursement from Medicaid/Medicare (which was during the Republicans watch), hospitals are very conscious of costs. Nurses are in a key position to try and curtail costs. But there has to be a balance between costs and patient safety.

7:17 poster here -- So, I am going to assume that you are against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? That's fine, I have no problem with that. The "giant sucking sound" you hear in the Federal Budget is those overseas ventures, not programs at home.

One doesn't have to be a Democrat to realize that tax and spend is better than spend and spend and spend of money that the government doesn't have.

Bull, hospitals are not conscious of costs. They are forever over charging or double charging insurance companies for meds, services, etc. This is an on going problem that keeps springing up but the real problem lies with the patients not looking close enough at their statements. A lot of hospitals don't even itemize what they are charging for, most of the time one needs to call and ask for an itemized statement of the charges, wtf? I have been in the hospital 2x this year and have repeatedly been doubled charged for things. Only after calling my insurance co and complaining has the hospital admitted it was a billing error and my insurance co would be reimbursed.

hey 8:11, actually I'm all for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although I do think its time to start putting in motion the means for their own military being in charge and start bringing some of our troops home. But I do believe we will need to be a strong presence there so what we have accomplished and the men and women who so bravely served their country and died for us there is not all for nothing. But yes I believe the cost is just too much. Quite frankly I would never say what I think we should really do cause I'm sure all you dems and liberals would be outraged.

And yes we are spending, spending, spending but raising taxes on families that already barely scrape by isn't the answer. And unfortunately big businesses is really what keeps the economy going strong. Raising taxes would scare the average person. One one wants to pay more taxes, do you? How would you like 1/2 your paycheck taken? You think you'd still be out spending and buying things, keeping the economy going if that happened. As it is I already pay 39% in taxes, why is that fair? After student loans, car payment and my home theres not much left even though I make 6 figures.

A very smart and diplomatic answer. It’s really appreciable and general.
