try replacing the lettuce with romaine, kale, spinach, arugala. the darker the leafy vegetable, the more nutritious. Also nuts (almonds in particular) and fruits are great snack choices, along with low fat yogurt.

World's Healthiest Foods

I don't know if this is the essential list for losing weight, but there is a great site called the World's Healthiest Foods and they list a ton of healthy vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats, etc. Every time I am eating a new vegetable or fruit or other healthy food, I look on the web site and see all the healthy things that the food will do for me and I get really psyched to be eating it. Some foods sound so healthy that I ened up constantly looking for ways to add to my diet - these include flax seed, blueberries, almonds and broccoli. Those are just some of the healthy foods I've read about recently, but there really are a ton of them - 130 on the web site to be exact - as well as recipies, etc. Check it out!

did I say commitment? That is probably the biggest thing you need for weight loss success in my book.

Weigh yourself daily

Just do it and if you are up a bit, don't freak out. Just get more focused on what you consume and how much you exercise and in a day or two you will be amazed at your progress. Always remember progress... not perfection.

get healthy, slim & trim for me
don't look back
I can do this
Belive in myself
I've been through hell & back for a reason
I need to committ to a NEW me who is not going to let anything jeopardize this
i will not fall to my old ways by feeling sorry for myself
I will not justify sweet-toothing & blame it on hormones
I will pass on healthy eating habits to my kids
I will not have my husband roll his eyes at me when I tell him i'm not buying any chips or have him say until when
I want my kids to be proud of their energetic, springy mom who can run around with them
I could go on forever

My #1 tip: Remember there is no one thing that works for everyone and that what works for you today may not work for you next week. Listen to your body and pay attention when it is telling you something isn't working. Don't be afraid to change your routine. And don't take anyone's dieting advice at 100% face value, including mine. :)

On that note, my essential foods are: Kashi Healthy Heart Raisin Spice oatmeal (or steel cut oats if I have the time), Dannon light and fit with fiber yogurt, 100 calorie snack packs, carrots, squash, kale, and Lemon Propel.

Lots and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables - make these the main part of your diet

Beans and lentils - super filling, full of fiber and protein

Seasonings to make everything yummy - lemon juice, onions, garlic, chilies, spices and herbs of all kinds

Oatmeal

Sweet potatoes deserve a mention of their own - incredibly filling. A tsp of maple syrup and a little cinnamon sprinkle on a nuked sweet pootato makes it really yummy. Takes out even heavy duty sweet pastry cravings.

Good information - World's healthiest foods mentioned above, Eat to Live or any of McDougall or Ornishes books, Nutritiondata.com,

Cookbooks with info on how to cook healthy low cal food - or just check some recipes here: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/ - tasty enough for non-vegans - Even if you don't eat vegan or vegetarian, eating more veg foods will definitely help you lose weight.

Lots of water or unsweetened tea or juice flavored water

Exercise and activity - burns calories, builds muscles that burn calories, and hard to eat snack while lifting weights or walking.

A way to periodically (or daily) check your nutrient and calorie intake. FitDay http://www.fitday.com/ , Nutritiondata - http://www.nutritiondata.com/ or Cron-o-meter - http://spaz.ca/cronometer/
