Age appropriate exercises?

I love to read fitness magazines, but I'm in my 40s and was wondering if the exercise tips and suggested routines are the same for all women, regardless of age. I know they say 40 is the new 20...but those models look to be 1/2 my age...and I am definately not in the same shape I was in 2 decades ago. Should I follow the suggested tips and exercises in such popular magazines as FITNESS, SELF, SHAPE, etc...?

I would love to find a health/fitness magazine that caters to those in their 40s (or each generation). My life is different (career, teenage kids, finances, etc...) and my body is too. If you have any magazine suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Great question...I've thought the same thing myself. I train seriously and when I have questions, the 20-30 year old trainers really don't have the info to understand the impact of age, hormones, etc on older women. I look forward to the responses.

Try Experience Life magazine

It's a magazine published by Lifetime Fitness, but don't let that turn you off. It doesn't give a lot of specific exercises, but is a great magazine for overall health and wellness. I've included a link if you want to check out some of the online articles. They like do themes every month, things like raising healthy children, healthy aging, new years resolutions, etc. so you may want to check out the archives if this month isn't "speaking" to you.

denise austin's fitness tapes ans shows are geared towards middle-aged women, i'm pretty sure. she has a fanulous selection / variety of routines & workouts available. i looooove working out to her and have seen results. she is so encouraging and motivating. and she's not prancing around in some barbie-doll thong, she's a healthy, fit woman who works out with you. i swear this is not spam and i don't work for her, lol !

I've seen woman with the body of a 30 year old at age 60. And woman who are 30 with the body of a 60 year old. Heredity has so much to do with it.

I can only speak for myself at age 60. As you age your joints (elbows, shoulder socket, knees) become more prone to injury so you have to take it easier. Generally, if it hurts, don't do it.

Sorry, unfortunately I don't know of any exercise magazines that cater to the over 40 crowd.
