What qualifies as a binge?

Can anyone tell me what qualifies as a binge? I am never really sure - is it consuming a certain amount of calories in one sitting or one day?

Can be either for me. All day eating binge at a holiday feast eating with abandon in gluttonous pleasure. Or, just can't stop with one bowl of cereal or one handful of chips. For me a a binge is anytime I eat with out control or limitation.

I think it you treat yourself within your calorie limit, it isn't really a binge, it is a trade off for a little food fun.

Two definitions

1. Binge eating is an eating disorder characterized by eating more than a person needs to satisfy hunger.

2. Binge eating is a form of overeating in which a person ingests a large amount of food during a discrete period of time (within one or two hours, for example) and experiences feelings of being out of control and unable to stop eating during the episode.

But these really refer to binge eating disorders. I think we can all have a binge without having a disorder. It just depends on how chronic and frequent it is.

For me, a binge is when I eat more than I had planned, even though I was not hungry.

for me, a binge is simply when i feel out-of-control and like i can't stop putting food in my mouth. it could be "only" 2 donuts, where as someone else could eat 2 donuts and make the decision to do so and wouldn't call it a binge.
