Another Birth Control Question

Hello all! like the other poster I am wondering about different types of BC. However, my concerns are slightly different. Like all here, I am concerned about the weight gain, but what concerns me the most is the effect is has on your mood. Last year I had to go off of the pill because it made me absolutely INSANE! I was crying all the time and would get really upset at my boyfriend for no reason. I didn't feel like myself. Our relationship is very important to me, but not getting pregnant is also very important to me.

So here's the question:

What BC won't make me go crazy? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know it's not really diet related but I htink this is a good place to ask. Thank you!

I wish I had an answer too. The pill made me INSANE too, all caps is the only thing that could describe this. I had to give it up, I figured, if I'll always be insane, I won't be having sex anyway! I no longer use the pill. Yes, my boyfriend and I use condoms, crazy, I know.

I made a long post about the IUD in the BC weight gain thread. I don't think I had nearly your emotional reaction to the pill, but I was noticably more agressive and irritable. My doctor confirmed that this is one of the more commonly occuring side-effects.

I use the IUD because homonal birth control simply had too many side effects, and I love it! However, if you do consider it - do your research and talk to your doctor. Also, it's really only good choice for those in long-term, monogamous relationships.

Good luck with future BC!

Not all pills are the same

There are a ton of different types of "The Pill." If you didn't try a couple different types and get the same reaction, you might want to try that. (I've heard that Yasmin is a very low-dose pill that doesn't cause the emotional side affects, but I've never tried it.)

I do understand where you're coming from tho. I tried the birth control shot and cried for 3 straight months - as a newlywed!

have you tried the patch? i think it may be a good idea and for weight gain i dont think its as high as other methods. i would reccommend trying a few out and see which one works best for you. there are other options also like the inserting foams, female condoms, the ring, cervical caps, diaphrams and atleast that way you wont have all the emotional/hormonal problems
