i don't really have any tips on that but I've definitely noticed the same problem... There were times when I was running track in school and on cold race days I'd sometimes be wheezing and gasping for air an hour after the race.

So... I don't know. But my guess would be if you keep slowly increasing your time outside on cold days eventually your lungs will get used to it? I'd like to hear from somebody who has a real answer though.

Hi there--I get "cold-induced" asthma... so I definitely "feel your pain"!

Have you tried running with some kind of ski mask or scarf over you mouth to help "warm the air"? The only downfall is that the moisture may cause ice crystals to form or dampness on the scarf.... However, I'm sure that they have some that wick away moisture and dampness....

I usually avoid exercise in extreme cold for that reason.

I lived in Syracuse for awhile & still ran even on the coldest days - I had breathing pain when it got very cold but noticed it helped to wear some sort of running jacket with something covering the neck. I don't know if that really did it but maybe it helped psychologically.

I dunno, northern states aside (ahem! some of us down south are still ice-covered!) I went running in 18F weather the other day without a problem. Maybe it is athsma induced by the cold? Once the temperature dips below freezing the air does get very dry, which might be a factor.
