Best Way to Gain Weight?

Because of some skin allergies, I had to cut bread and dairy out of my diet. After I did, I could not keep weight on. I'm a guy, and lost 15 pounds on pt a year ago- went from 210 to 195. Then I lost about 10 pounds after my new diet. I got sick this week and lost another 8 pounds and am currently at 177. I'm over 6 feet, and I feel too thin. I can't go back to bread and dairy, and am curious what specific things will help me put 5-8 pounds back on. Do I focus on sugar and fat, or simply overall caloric intake?

i think focusing on sugar and fat will put weight on, for sure, but is that the kind of weight you really want to add to your body? i think weight-lifting, even mildly, will increase your bulk, your body's mass, and thus add weight, but will also add form. although added muscle may also improve your metabolism, i think if you added some protein-rich, wheat-free pasta and some lean protein (tofu, lean beef, pork, skinless chicken, fish) to your diet, you will also notice some weight gain.

Protein and protein shakes really help guys bulk up fast with just a moderate approach to resistance training.

Make sure you get a lot of protein and lift weights. Lifting will build muscle, but you'll continue to lose if you have a calorie deficit, so eat to be sure that you're not creating one. Protein helps to repair the muscle and create more.

So, eat what you feel like eating, with a focus on getting enough protein - nuts, meats, soy. Nuts are great snacks when you need protein and aren't focused on cutting calories!

I'd say low-fat protein (eggwhite, lean chicken, soy) and some resistance training will have you looking trim and cut.

Not that 177 is bad, mmm you sound about right to me!
